Sox drop 2/3 to the Rays, last night losing in 14. And guess who blew it -- Timlin!!

2.5 back, Toronto coming for 4 over the weekend.

Homerism aside, how can anyone possibly root against the Rays?

We don't like that name mentioned in Boston.

sid fernandez is the greatest six-inning pitcher in baseball history. For his CAREER, over the first three innings, the opposition hit .192 against him, with an OBP of .271 and a slugging percentage of .323. Over innings four through six, the opposition hit .222, with a .299 OBP and a .362 slugging percentage.

edit--sorry, Fernandez was a Met rfom 1984-1993, and then played a little for baltimore and philadelphia. He was constantly among the league leaders in strikeouts/9 and hits allowed/9.

He was also the winning pitcher for game 7 of the 86 WS, no? I thought you were taunting us.

I believe that sid has the third or fourth lowest hits/inning ratio in baseball history, and the others are guys like Nolan Ryan and Pedro. Sid was a total monster, but he would just melt down in the later innings, and because he couldn't go more than six innings, he got a ton of no-decisions. I remember once he has something like 12 strikeouts through five innings, was pitching a no-hitter, and then sprained his ankle sliding into third base after hitting a triple. He was cursed.

What are the playoff rules again? If we win the East, and TB wins the WC, then we play Chicago/Minnesota, right?

That would be huge. Going through TB and LA would be pretty difficult.
