Apparently. Funny how that its pretty clear that Wakefield is only here on principle (at least I hope that's the case, and management doesn't think that he actually helps us), yet the Red Sox have supposedly made it their motto not to keep guys on pure principle and have ran several guys out of town who were great guys and could still help the team (and tried to tarnish their public image to help save face). At least, more than this old fossil Wakefield is, while giving up a million runs in a huge game against a team we're chasing in the standings.
Um...I don't see how Wakefield is a bad number 5 starter. I'll take a 4.14 ERA from that spot, most teams would. If he got better run support, he could have 15-20 wins this year.
His stats are decent, but he has a bad habit of melting down at the absolute worst times. Stats don't tell the whole story, sometimes. It seems like every time he gives up 2 runs, we can only get one. And every time we give him 5 runs, he gives up 8. Sigh...
I hope. Time to move on. For the sake of being controversial, I wouldn't giving Pedro a small, incentive-laden test run for next year. He is in the last year of his contract, correct? I believe he signed a 4-year deal before 2005.
I hope the Rays celebrate their dicks off on the field, and the Sox are forced to stay out there and watch.
