Beasley Seeks New Agent

A rift between Heat rookie Michael Beasley and agent Joel Bell over endorsement deals could have the second overall draft pick searching for new representation.

Beasley confirmed Sunday he has had disagreements with Bell but denied reports that he has reached out to other agents.

Bruce Shingler, Beasley's live-in personal assistant and long-time friend, also denied a Yahoo.com report that Beasley had fired both Bell and another long-time advisor who coached Beasley prior to his lone college season at Kansas State.

''There have been some differences over terms, and things haven't all worked out like we thought,'' said Shingler, who was with Beasley in Miami on Sunday. ``But that stuff out there is not true. It's a lot of rumors.''

Shingler would not say if Beasley had notified the NBA of any intensions to switch agents. League rules require players to wait 15 days before signing with another agent.

Bell has not responded to repeated phone or email messages seeking comment. Two months ago, Bell said Beasley had smaller endorsement deals with trading card and sports drink companies. But a lucrative shoe deal had not been reached.

Oklahoma City guard Kevin Durant, last year's second overall pick, reportedly had between $40 and $60 million in rookie endorsement deals. Durant and Beasley grew up near Washington, D.C. and are close friends. Shingler said the matter wouldn't be a distraction for Beasley, who has been in Miami preparing for the Sept. 27 start of Heat training camp.

The Yahoo.com report named agents Aaron Goodwin and Andy Miller as suitors for Beasley, with Leon Rose also mentioned in some circles. Goodwin also represents Durant.

''A lot of people are hawking - it's like blood in the water based on some rumors,'' Shingler said. ``But all Mike is focused on is getting ready for camp and helping the Miami Heat.''
