I dig. You know, what might be kind of cool is to do what Google does--have a basic graphic that never changes, but modify it based on current news. So if somebody gets arrested for heroine use you could have a needle poking the logo. Or put Oden's ROY trophy on there in the background. Or his hottie in the pink dress. You could change it maybe monthly....
If this goes on through, say, the weekend, I could turn my hand to it. I used to do web design professionally and did some work on banners and such, plus Photoshop work has always been a hobby (I recognize the number of jokes that admission can spawn). I probably won't have much time prior to the weekend, though. So if it needs to be decided prior to that, no problem.
Heh.. I almost regret suggesting it. It's a huge amount of work setting up 400+ forums for one day. This might be something I could do site-wide a lot easier.
Is there a way to give a mod here permission to just modify the banner? That way it's not your job to manage it.
Why not throw up #1 Poet's graphic today, put mine up a few days from now, Minstrel's a few days after that? Let people get to see them actually realtime (a lot of us have a hard time visualizing what it'd look like in the context of the whole site just from the graphic on its own). Then we take a vote and call her done. At least for a while.... Assuming, of course, you'd be ok with the work to do that?
I think so, using Drupal. I think it makes sense for everyone to get settled in here first, then I can get interested people involved on the Drupal side. It's really simple to do. I right click on the image in the thread, save to my hard drive and upload it to the server and it's live on the site. All I have to do beyond that is make sure the file has the right file name. Of course I'm OK with it.
Denny- Since there doesn't seem to be a huge stirring of opinion one way or the other, would you mind throwing one of the two banners (Poet's or mine) up there now? Up to you to pick which one for now, I suppose. I'm less concerned about which particular art than I am in publicizing that there's an easier way to get here.
I put yours up since it was in jpg format, easier to deal with (filename issue). You may have to shift-reload to see it, since the old image may be in your browser cache.
I'll just knock one up using the template I used for the rest of the banners, just so it can be compared
