Tempe, AZ – The Arizona Cardinals Football Club today announced that the team has agreed to terms on a four-year contract with Michigan defensive tackle ALAN BRANCH, the team’s second-round (33rd overall) selection in the 2007 NFL Draft. In accordance with club policy, terms were not disclosed.

Branch (6-5, 334) was instrumental in helping Michigan’s run defense rank #1 in the nation last year by allowing only 43.4 rushing yards per game. He was an All-American Dream Team selection and All-Big Ten conference first team choice in 2006 as a junior while starting all 13 games and was a defensive force as he often commanded double teams from the opposing offensive line.

The Rio Rancho, NM native finished his three year collegiate career by starting in 23 of the 37 games that he appeared, collecting 61 tackles, nine sacks, four fumble recoveries, three forced fumbles and one interception.

Branch becomes the fourth member of Arizona’s 2007 draft class to be under contract. The team previously signed Florida State linebacker Buster Davis (third round, 69th overall), Michigan wide receiver Steve Breaston (fifth round, 142nd overall) and Delaware tight end Ben Patrick (seventh round, 215th overall). First round selection tackle Levi Brown (5th overall) is the only rookie not yet to agree to contract terms.

The Arizona Cardinals on Thursday night reached agreement with first-round draft pick Levi Brown, the offensive tackle from Penn State, on a six-year contract, ESPN.com has confirmed.

The contract, negotiated by agent Joel Segal, has a maximum value of $62 million. That is believed to be the most lucrative contract in NFL history for an offensive lineman, although Brown is unlikely to max out the deal by reaching all the incentives.

"Levi is looking forward to joining the Cardinals coaches and players at practice tomorrow," Segal said. "The Cardinals stepped up and made this deal happen."

Brown, 23, was the fifth player chosen overall and the second offensive tackle. The accord leaves five first-round choices unsigned. The group includes the top pick, quarterback JaMarcus Russell of Oakland. Detroit wide receiver Calvin Johnson, the No. 2 pick, agreed to terms on a six-year contract early Friday.

Segal said Brown was en route to Phoenix on Thursday night from his home in Virginia. Brown was scheduled to take a physical Friday before signing his contract and then join the Cardinals at training camp on the Northern Arizona University campus.

"We were a bit frustrated by the amount of time it took and didn't think it had to take this long," Arizona general manager Rod Graves said. "...The proposal that we agreed upon today was not far from where we've been the last week or so."

A four-year starter for the Nittany Lions, with 44 of his 45 starts at left tackle, Brown is expected to challenge veteran Oliver Ross for the starting job at right tackle. That is a key position in the Arizona offense, since quarterback Matt Leinart is left-handed, and the right tackle is responsible for primary pass protection duties.

It's a shame that Matt Trannon didn't make the squad. You'd think Michigan State's all-time receptions leader couldplay inthe NFL, especially with the upside that Trannon had as a 6'6", two-sport athlete. Had he just played football at MSU, he probably would have developed into a high draft pick.

I've always been a Tronnon fan and I thought he played well in the preseason. I think the deciding factor was that he couldnt really play special teams, where as a guy like Sean Morey can.
