So I haven't posted anything about this event yet, but it's coming up and it's the fight card that precedes the first episode of The Ultimate Fighter 8, which is coached by Frank Mir and Antonio Nogueira. UFC Fight Night 15 Date: Sep 17, 2008 Location: Omaha, Neb. Venue: Omaha Civic Auditorium Broadcast: Spike TV MAIN CARD 155 Lbs: Nate Diaz (9-2) vs. Josh Neer (24-6) 155 Lbs: Mac Danzig (18-4) vs. Clay Guida (23-9) 205 Lbs: Houston Alexander (8-3) vs. Eric Schafer (9-3) 185 Lbs: Alan Belcher (12-5) vs. Ed Herman (14-6) 155 Lbs: Kyle Bradley (13-5) vs. Joe Lauzon (16-4) 185 Lbs: Wilson Gouveia (10-5) vs.Ryan Jensen (13-4) Under Card 185 Lbs: Drew McFedries (7-3) vs Mike Massenzio (10-2) 185 Lbs: Rob Kimmons (20-3) vs. Dan Miller (8-1) 185 Lbs: Alessio Sakara (13-7)vs. Joe Vedepo (7-1) 205 Lbs: Jason Brilz (15-1) vs. Brad Morris (8-3)
Alan Belcher vs. Ed Herman = battle for food money. Both of those guys need a win pretty desperately, especially The Ginger Ninja.
Danzig vs Clay Guida = instant classic. This one is going to be awesome!! I think Houston Alexander will come back with a monsterous KO once again too.
It's pretty insane Jeremy Horn has fought 97 times! However he has lost 4 of last 5 fights. I think Wilson Gouviea is getting fed him, because if you are smart enough not to get on the ground against his submissions then he should be an easy win. I hope they show Drew McFedries' fight, he can get big KOs.
Gouveia is talented but it seems like he is lazy. I wonder if he will drop a weight class--he seems doughy at 205.
I wonder if the UFC would be going to Omaha if Houston Alexander wasn't with the company? Also, I remember watching Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom when I was really little. That's what I think of whenever somebody says Nebraska or Omaha.

$30,000 Fight Night bonuses were awarded to the following fighters: Nick Diaz and Josh Neer (Fight of the Night) Alessio Sakara (Knockout of the Night) Wilson Gouveia (Submission of the Night)
the ed herman/ alan belcher decision was crap IMO. Belcher took the 1st but didn't have a clear advantage in striking in the last 2 rounds and was taken down several times in each round. 29/28 Herman is how I saw it. complete screw job. Man has Houston Alexander improved at all with his ground game?? weak, weak, weak. I went against my boy Guida and paid for it in the pick'em league.. I'm still glad he won. Great fight with Guida and Danzig and Great fight with Neer and Diaz. Worthy of being PPV fights IMO. Herman Belcher was a bit slow in places but still a decent fight too. Great night of fights IMO.
I thought the Belcher/Herman fight was a terrible decision also. Herman was able to take Belcher down repeatedly and put pressure on him. I think he definately won the last two rounds, and the judges, I don't know what they were watching. Do you think this fight makes Herman on the outs with the UFC, or do you think he is still kept around to be one of those guys that builds up other fighters? Same with Alexander, he put on an exciting fight, but he clearly is outmatched in the UFC by most everyone. Whoever can not get hit, or can weather the early storm will be able to beat Alexander, which is seeming to be alot of people now. Lost his last three by first round KO. You think he's expendable now, and they are looking to get rid of him, or do you think he is kept around because his fights always end in first round KO's/Submissions?
He supposedly just signed a four- or six-fight contract with the UFC so now they have to decide what they are going to do with him. I don't think TV or main card PPV fights are in his near future.
Joe Silva must hate Houston Alexander. You think he'd throw him an easy opponent, someone he could bang with so he could get a shot at a win. Everybody knows Houston's ground game and sub defense is his weak sauce, so he throws him in there with a guy who specializes in BJJ? That's harsh, Joe. I think Houston will get another crack on a preliminary fight on either a PPV or a UFN, something that won't be aired. Hopefully they give him a guy that is willing to trade with him.
I'm guessing the next fight, they'll give Houston someone who he matches up better with, but I mean he landed some nice knees before Schafer got the win.
Payouts: Diaz $70k d. Neer $39k Guida $26k d. Danzig $15k Belcher $26k d. Herman $16k Schafer $12k d. Alexander $13k Sakara $64k d. Vedepo $3k Gouveia $66k d. Jensen $4k Lauzon $20k d. Bradley $4k Brillz $6k d. Morris $4k Massenzio $6k d. McFederies $16k Miller $10k d. Kimmons $5k Bonuses went out to Diaz, Neer, Gouveia, and Sakara. Sakara made 21x what his opponent made.
wait.. so Neer only made 9K for the loss but got a 30K bonus??? for the time he's put in with the UFC that's not right. also Clay guida better get a good bump in pay too next contract.
Well nobody has a clear idea on what these contracts entail. These guys might be getting more than what we're seeing--maybe there are bonuses if they complete a contract, or x-number of fights within a certain time period, or whatnot. A base of $9k for Neer is pretty chintzy. Also, I'm curious about Drew McFedries. He's gone W-L-W-L-W-L in the UFC. A 90-second submission loss to a new UFC fighter flying under the radar must be bad for him. The fact that his wins have all been by KO must work in his favour, though.
I think that is exactly it, fans generally prefer to see finishes than decisions. And while in the UFC of his 6 fights, none have gone to decision. He has either KO'd his opponent or been KO'd (once) or submitted (twice).
