I've heard conflicting things that PG or C are the hardest positions to play in the NBA. What are your guys thoughts? I personally think PG's who set up the team and are essentially the catalysts of the team have the hardest time. Not to mention PG's usually take awhile transitioning from college to the NBA.
I think it depends on the PG. Duhon was a 2nd round pick and immediately stepped in and showed he was very good at running a team. He was never going to develop into a better player than he is. On the other hand, the really great PGs seem to take a couple of years, at least.
It all depends on the offense a team is running. Some coaches run offenses that rely heavily on a PG handling the ball and distributing to players in scoring positions. Some coaches run offenses where the PG spends most of their time standing at the 3 point line, waiting to shoot. Some offenses run inside out, where the PGs main role is to make a good pass into the post. I don't think you can make a general statement about which position is the hardest to play because, really, it all comes down to the specific offense a team is running. The only thing I can agree with is that perimeter defense is much harder to play than interior defense.
I think the hardest position to play is the wing. I think you face the toughest competition there and usually the better athletes play those positions. You have to be able to score from inside, outside, and mid-range plus you need a decent handle.
Well hardest to play is really hard to define. A lot of it depends on the person's skillset, their physical attributes, athleticism, strength. A guy who is 6'8 230 pounds will have a harder time guarding Shaq than a 7'2 270 pounder. A taller and overweight pointguard will have a harder time guarding Tony Parker or Chris Paul. If it is like which position is the hardest to score at, I'd say low-post center, as there aren't many low post centers putting up 15+ ppg. However you see lots of pointguards or wing players putting up 15+ ppg.
