Exactly. I'm not opposed to bringing in some veterans, but they have to be a part of the team concept. I'm more apt to wanting someone who can shoot from distance, rebound, and play D.
Well he plays within a team concept a lot more than primadonnas like Carter. Another guys is Battier that fulfills most of your wants too, although I don't think he will be available
I'm sure Ron will start, I think Battier will be the 6th man, with Artest sometimes playing PF for short minutes. He's definitely strong enough
Here's the thing: if you simply do nothing until next summer or 2010 at the latest, you can have a very legitimate chance at getting an all-NBA player like Lebron, Wade, Bosh or Anthony. Why give that up for a guy who's not going to be anywhere close to that level. Even AK-47 or Marion, who are really good players, are going to be significantly older than the rest of your team. So I'd say why mess with that? Don't, unless it's a short-term deal for a player with good leadership skills who'll be off the books in 2010, or it's for one of those really top notch guys. I could, for example, see Anthony coming available early due to the Nuggets sucking. I'm not 100% sure he's the guy you'd want, but he's undeniably the talent level you ought to be aiming for.
I don't think the Blazers will be under the cap in 2010. Roy and Aldridge are looking to get paid after this season and that will take the Blazers out of the FA market. We always have that MLE?

Portland won't have any cap space in 2010, I believe, once they sign Aldridge and Roy to long-term contracts. Definitely not enough to offer anyone a max contract. 2009 is their only free agent window. If they don't do anything by the 2009 off-season, the chance passes.
yeah..i just thought about the idea and then did some crazy scenario lol...i hope for granger(trade or FA), wallace(trade obviously), or kobe(FA).....i cant really think of anybody else who will make us that good(that we can get)
The real sad thing is, we could probably put together a real nice package for LeBron, but Cleveland will probably hold out hope until the last second that LeBron won't leave them. So they'll get nothing in return.
I'm in favor of option 5, trade Joel Przybilla, a player I can't see being part of our championship core for the next 10-15 years, for a backup center with an expiring contract. Then we either have extra cap space as insurance against Boston playing Miles for 10 games or have the ability to do option 4 and still have the full ability to choose our favorite of the first three options.

Blounts contract is the same length as Joel's, and he is a worse player. Dorell Wright isn't good enough of an add-in to make it worthwhile, especially since we have Webster, Outlaw, Batum who are better or somewhat comparable

Because he's a better player, particularly on defense, than any of the backup centers with expiring contracts. Indiana has two possibilities. What if we help them get something for Tinsley? I don't see any centers with expiring contracts on Memphis. Did you mean Jason Collins? He's in Minnesota now. Before they traded for Love, I thought they should trade for a true center and move Jefferson back to PF. They might want to keep Jefferson at center now, but having a true center better than Jason Collins isn't a bad idea for them IMO. For us, I'd rather trade a player I can't see as a piece of our core for the next 10-15 years and accept a slight drop off at backup center than have to choose between signing a good free agent and keeping our own young players or getting stuck if Miles plays 10 games. Here is another idea of mine, assuming Storyteller is correct about Big Z's contract. We would then sign Livingston or bring Koponen over and take our chances with three young but talented PGs for at least one season.
