Phil Jackson is getting up there in years, a few of is staffers are up there, too. Say he wins a championship and decides enough is enough.

Who would be the ideal candidate to replace him at the head coach position?

It'll be a downgrade no matter who's hired, but I'd like to see a Marc Jackson-type (in fact Marc Jackson would be an ideal pick.)

I'm all for Brian Shaw or even Kurt Rambis to take the helm.

Rambis is 1st in line to get the job, imo. I'd rather have Shaw.

It'll probably be Kurt Rambis, though I wouldn't mind seeing Marc Jackson or Brian Shaw. Any of the three would work well, especially Rambis or Shaw since they have so much experience in coaching the triangle since they've been working under PJax for so long.

    I dunno about Rambis...

Wasn't he our coach a while ago before Phil came, and failed miserably? Obviously that was a long time ago, and he must have improved under Phil Jackson, but still, I'd prefer Brian Shaw. Something about having actually seen Shaw play and seen him winning with us, and then coaching our team seems kind of cool.

Rambis was actually pretty good when Phil was out for a bit (hip recovery I think)...I think you might be referencing the time before when he coached for just a bit.

Im not sold on him either but would prefer him over Shaw at this point.

Yeah, Shaw doesn't have much experience at all...

Byron Scott would be the perfect fit (he admitted that the Lakers would be his dream job), too bad he's already signed on with the Hornets for long term.

I was actually wondering about that...Do you have a link you can provide about how long he is signed up with NO for?

Can we pull a Tampa Bay Bucs and get Scott like they got Gruden? :ghoti:

    Oh.

Well actually I just looked over Wikipedia, and it says Scott signed a 2-year extension after last season. Not sure why someone would lie about this on Wiki, so assuming it's true, he could be available in 2010!!! I'm pretty sure Phil has at least two more years left in him. lol

    1. Byron Scott- my hands down favorite pick

    2. Rambis, but only if he wears the goggle-glasses
    3. B-Shaw, but he has to promise not to tear any more ligaments in shooters' hands.
    4. Stu Lance! He always knows what the lakers need.

Rambis is next in line once PJax decides to retire from coaching. I don't mind him or Shaw taking over the head coaching duties, and ideally the Lakers can keep them both on the staff because of the chemistry they already have with the players. Rambis does a fantastic job of explaining the offense on radio shows and he did a solid job for the Lakers when PJax was out with his hip surgery. I actually felt Rambis was more creative in his rotations and did a better job of playing the "hot hand" during the short span of games he coached. PJax has this frustrating habit of benching a guy after he hits two or three shots in a row (with the exception of Kobe.) Then the player subs in later and can't find his rhythm again.

I'd prefer Shaw because I think he'd be a little more uptempo and run a quicker version of the Triangle to take advantage of our speed in the frontcourt. I think Rambis or Shaw will need to bring in the right assistants to teach the team defense. I'd love to get Jeff Van Gundy on the coaching staff to teach proper defensive technique and to stress the importance of playing tough hard-nosed defense for 48 minutes.
