Well here is a first. What ever happened to he isn't concerned passing a global test and all those other things he said when mocking Kerry. I'm not a Kerry fan, but I remember Bush mocking Kerry for this. He didn't care wht the UN thought of invading Iraq, but now: NEW YORK - President Bush sought to assure anxious world leaders on Monday that the United States is taking "bold, aggressive, decisive action" to rescue the crisis-ridden economy with a $700 billion bailout package. "The whole world is watching to see if we can act quickly," Bush said, prodding lawmakers in Washington to approve his plan. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080923/ap_on_go_pr_wh/bush
When a country is as reliant on foreign investment as ours is, I imagine Bush (and whomever succeeds him) will be doing a lot of ass kissing for the foreseeable future.
The reason he cares about what foreigners think is that they've been the ones subsidizing our lifestyle for the past 20 years. Lesson: You can't live beyond your means in the long term.
I wouldn't want to be Obama or McCain right now. What a mess one of them is going to step into. Taxes are going up for everyone, I don't care who gets elected.
Either one is going to be a one-term president, even if they want to be re-elected. This period feels awfully like the mid to late 70s to me. Carter was a terrible president, but Ford would have been as bad. The economic problems we faced were just too big.
The counterexample would be 1932 and Roosevelt. Although I have to admit I'm not quite old enough to remember that. barfo
"You know, sending Bush to other countries always seems good on paper. But the leaders of the others countries are like, 'What the fuck? Why did you bring the head manager of Walmart?' " A quote from Mock of the Week - It was funny at the time.
