The Mets aren't the Yankees, but they aren't some small market club. Omar has had tons of resources to build a team. Do you think he deserves that extension based on his signings and trades? I don't. For what they pay out, I don't think they should be battling it out with the Phillies for a playoff spot 2 years running. If Willie could get outed, why not Omar? -Petey
He's made about 1/4 the mistakes of the other GM in New York. One of them traded for the best pitcher in baseball and is in the playoff chase. Omar got this extension because he put butts in seats and made the owner money. Period.
That's not a ringing endorsement considering how many mistakes Cashman has made. I'm not a fan of his either. He also signed Pedro. He took on Delgado's contract. Didn't replace Sanchez last year after his accident. Are you happy that the reason he got an extension was due to making the owner money? -Petey
Without Pedro, they would have never signed Beltran or Delgado and would be nowhere right now. Delgado is a top 5 MVP candidate this year. I personally think he is an average to slightly above average GM, but he did his job and earned a contract. The Mets won't hesitate to pay two GMs if things go south. They expect full houses next year in their new, smaller digs and if they don't get it Omar will be gone.
They traded for Delgado, didn't sign him. He went to the Marlins who offered him a bigger deal. Delgado also attributed to the poor streak the Mets went on in September? Beltran would had signed. He didn't have many options. Remember he offered himself to the Yankees at a cheaper rate and they pasted (what a mistake that is in hind-sight with how much they paid Damon)... I wonder what Epstein will get compared to Omar as his contract is up... and Cashman next year (who I hope takes off). -Petey
Delgado didn't have to agree to come here. He could have been difficult about it. Pedro changed the culture of the whole franchise. That was the moment the Mets became legit again. Delgado's season has been incredible. You can't rely on him to stay hot for four straight months.

You're killing me here. I read the Theo/Minaya thing wrong I think. Let me rephrase it this way: if Theo got 10x then Minaya deserves maybe 4x. Brought the tools in to succeed but without a starting point, tools can only get you so far. Forgive me, I'm still high but I'll come back to it and fix it. BTW: Legal drugs, nothing illegal. I'll extrapolate at a later date.
