Facebook is really useful, its like having a more interactive address book online.

Myspace is kind of stupid. but i have some friends i keep up with on there, so i can't delete. better for looking up chicks you just met..but that's about it.

myspace is good only for bands. Lots of indie bands have pages with music, and myspace has a music player integrated so you can listen to their tracks. In every other way, I think Facebook is better.

Facebook will most likely beat MySpace in that area soon, too.

I think a new platform will beat them both.

Facebook used to be a much better product when they identified if you were truly whom you were, or attempted to. Every since they have started to become more and more like MySpace. MySpace has become so commercialized and hammered with spam it really ruins the experience. I see Facebook moving that way too. I can understand why Facebook changed their policy as how much in revenue (due to volume) and in value they shot up by opening themselves to more users.

I really don't enjoy applications that are everywhere on Facebook. I also like that MySpace allows members to be creative with how the page looks... I like changing the look and feel of my page every month or two, and I enjoy seeing what my friends (or random people I'm MyStalking) prefer their page to look like.

I have accounts on both, but I spend 80% or more of my social networking time on MySpace.

Facebook is for adults, MySpace is for kids.

Myspace also has a lot of good stand up comedy stuff in addition to the music groups, and better options for interest groups. Facebook is more professional looking, but myspace is better for networking imo.

Both are for homos and chicks.

I have neither though everyone is telling me I should get one. If I had to sign up for one it would probably be facebook but like Jurassic said Myspace appeals to musicians/comedians/entertainers more.

Joined facebook a couple months ago, and love it. I've had a ton of old friends from highschool get in touch with me. It's cool!

I was on MySpace for a few years and got nothing but strippers wanting to be "friends" and teenagers galore with pages. It seems like a decent place for pederasts.

Joined Facebook this summer and have reconnected with dozens of people. Even met a few old friends in Seattle a few weeks ago for the Husky/Sooner football game after "seeing" them again on Facebook.

haha..my facebook status: instead of going out, being social and enjoying the world..stayed at home and posted about NBA Basketball online. I think I made the right choice.

it wasn't about basketball though. haha

MySpace had a big update this morning where they have licensed thousands and thousands of songs and significantly upgraded the music player... it's nothing that's a huge jump over what one could get through third party (and illegal, strictly speaking) players, but it's a big step in terms of ease of use.

I think last.fm still has the better music-based networking site, and I believe it has agreements with at least three of the "big five labels." So they aren't illegal and they have a great site with good user interface. But it's less connect-and-talk than myspace or Facebook.

Myspace is just a bunch of emo kids trying to get as many fake friends as possible.

I meant that withing the MySpace framework it's an improvement... I've been off and on last.fm, and it's very cool for what it is, but I'm not a big enough music fan (nor is my immediate circle of friends) to make it worth spending much time there.

Heh. Maybe it's like that for you, but it's definitely not for me and my friends.

Oh, that's interesting. I had thought you were quite a big music fan.

But yeah, last.fm definitely isn't for socializing broadly, like myspace or Facebook. It's more about finding new music through other people.

I realize these sites are very popular, but I've just never seen any personal use for them. What is the appeal of these sites?

I never really got why people add like everyone at their school onto their friends list on these things. I guess that would be considered "networking", but adding people to your school who you've never talked to seems weird to me.
