Guess Who's NFC Defensive Player of the Week

Brian Dawkins won't get the age questions. For at least a week. Dawkins, who had a sack, a tackle for loss, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and 10 tackles in the Eagles' 15-6 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers Sunday, will be named NFC Defensive Player of the Week today.

Dawkins previously was NFC Player of the Week in 2002 after a game against the Houston Texans and in 2006 after a game against the New York Giants. He was Player of the Month in December 2006.

"He's an animal,” teammate Asante Samuel said.

"He's a hell of a player, and I love playing with him. He plays with a lot of emotion and a lot of heart, and he just wants to win.”

Dawkins, 34, had one of the best games of his career six days after a disappointing performance in a loss to the Dallas Cowboys.

During the week, he found himself defending his ability to still be a productive player in a passionate speech directed at fans and media who doubt him.

"I know everybody has their opinions, and they can have their own opinions,” he said last Wednesday.

"But I know the facts, and the fact is, I can play this game, and I can do what I need to do for my teammates, and so that's what I hold strong to.”

Dawkins made the critical play of the game when he batted the ball out of Ben Roeth-lisberger's hands and recovered the loose ball, setting up the fourth-quarter field goal that gave the Eagles a two-possession lead.

"I don't know what a 34-year old is supposed to feel like or play like,” Dawkins said after the game.

"I just know that he was scrambling and I had to make the play to do it. That's always been my game for these guys. I know what I can do on the football field. I feel what I can do for my teammates.”
