This offense has really fallen apart with the decline (and then release) of Alexander. Actually, it probably started with Hutchinson leaving. Then Jones began showing his age at LT. Alexander has fallen apart. Hasselbeck has no time to throw - to an injured WR core. A 1st for Deion Branch? I said it then and it has proven to be right: horrible decision by their management.
It's hard to run a successful west coast offense when you are lacking receivers that run routes correctly and can catch the ball consistently. It's not like the Seahawks are starting their 3rd and 4th WRs... they have 5 receivers out (Deion Branch, Nate Burleson, Bobby Engram, Ben Obomanu, Logan Payne), and Seneca Wallace who has played there a bit. If the passing game is that hurt and teams can key in on the rushing game, then good look scoring like you did last year. That being said, the addition of Koren Robinson is huge. A guy that knows Holmgren's west coast style well and can step in and be decent. Julius Jones and TJ Duckett are tearing it up in the run game too, back to back 100 yard rushing games for Jones. Walter Jones is still a beast, the OLine just has injuries as well. But it looks like Hasselbeck is starting to get into a rhythm and producing a repertoire with TE John Carlson and the rest of his ragtag WR corps.
I've never seen one position get so hard by injuries on one team before... like what has happened to the WRs on Seattle.
At least Julius Jones is off to a great start. He always seems to run well at Qwest field. I got this from another message board... but in the 4 games he has played there, he has 100 total carries, 577 total yards (5.77 ypc), and 5 TDs.
Oh believe me I know, I had hated Julius Jones for a long time before he signed with the Seahawks. Absolutely terrorized the home field every time we played the Cowboys. I watched the Hawks/Cowboys playoff game from '06 on demand the other day and Jones/Ken Hamlin were fighting the entire game. Kind of funny now that they're on the opposite teams.
Too bad they couldn't get Kris Dielman a couple of offseasons ago. That would've really helped the line and maybe the Seahawks would still be a damn good team.
GO SEAHAWKS! We should be nice and healthy and ready for the Giants on Oct. 5th. Cool to see that there is a Seahawk forum here.
Cool to see a Seahawks fan on board. We have a weekly game thread in the NFL General forum to discuss the games. Check it out some time, if you want.
