http://news.yahoo.com/s/livescience/20080925/sc_livescience/conservativeorliberalworkspacerevealsall This whole study is fascinating, but this section really struck me: "In personality tests of thousands of college students, Jost found that liberals tended to score higher than conservatives on one key measure called openness to experiences, which includes holding wide interests, and being imaginative and insightful. Conservatives showed higher scores for conscientiousness, which measures a person's need for order, discipline, achievement striving and rule following." This can explain why many artists--writers, painters, actors, etc., tend to be liberal. The description of the traits of a conservative is in line with the theory that conservatives associate their government with the archetypical "father figure."
This is so true. My room is a complete mess with stuff all over the place, and it's a kind of orangey-red colour, and I'm a liberal (socialist really, but in context it works) so that's decently impressive.
My dad likes to say 'if you're young and conservative, you have no heart; if you're old and liberal, you have no brains.' But he's old and liberal, so what does he know?
