Interesting list. They got the top 3 right, without a doubt in my opinion. It's interesting after that though. I don't see Deron Williams as a top five player. I don't rank him ahead of KG, Wade, Dwight, or PP. He does deserve to the in the top 10 though, no doubt. Seeing Shaq in the top 25 makes me sick too. He's not a top 25 player in the NBA anymore. His skills have clearly diminished and he's only good for about 60 games a season at the rate he's been going. Also, how can you put Oden ahead of proven commodities like Brand, Billups (who's way too low) and Josh Smith, when the kid hasn't touched the court. I realize he's got incredible potential, but lets see him play first. I'm also not a huge fan of B-Diddy being in the top 20. Tony Parker is much better than him and definitely deserves to be ranked above him, as does Manu, JJ, and Brandon Roy. And not gonna lie, when I think top 50 players, I can't say that Lamarcus Aldridge, Mike Miller, or Rasheed Wallace come to mind. Maybe if I composed a list, they could end up being on there, but with first thought, I don't consider any of them to be top 50 players in the league. And as much as I've been ragging on Iverson recently, he's far too low. While I don't praise the ground he walks on (like some of us here), I do still think he's a top 30 player. Odom, Gasol, Boozer, etc. have no right being ahead of him. Well...I have a lot more issues with this list...but I'm going to stop there. I'll wait for other responses before I rip into this list any more, cause it's really not that good.
Wow, I like Bynum and everything but not to that level. Let's see him through an entire season at least.
Agreed. He's got the ability and talent to be a top 15 player in this league, but I want to see him sustain over the course of 82 games. 35 games is just too small of a sampling to put him that high.
Also, I think Greg Oden is going to be amazing, but why does he crack this top 50 before he even steps on the court, right now he is ranked above people like LaMarcus Aldridge, Caron Butler, Antawn Jamison, Elton Brand, Monta Ellis, and Al Jefferson to name a few. Don't get me wrong, he's gonna be great, but I want to see him play a whole NBA season, before we throw him in a list like this.
Damn, Chauncey Billups is underrated by this poll. Or this guy seriously overrates bigs. There's no way that Bynum, Oden, and Aldridge should rate ahead of him at this point.
I would actually have to disagree. Vince is really a shell of his former self and has really become more of a jump shooter than anything. Roy, on the other hand, is a very complete player. He gets to the hoop, has a solid jump shot, and isn't too shabby on defense either. While I think Vince should have probably been in the top 50, I don't think he's on the level of Brandon Roy. Also, Durvasa, I very much agree with you. Chauncey is highly underrated by this poll, and the poll overrates bigs. Oden hasn't touched the court yet is in the top 30, Bynum shouldn't be as high as he is, and I don't even know if I'd consider Aldridge a top 50 player. Billups, on the other hand, should, at the very least, be top 25, if not higher.
WOW, I didn't even notice he was missing. No Kidd...but they have Oden in the top 30...Aldridge up there....hmm....this list is becoming more and more flawed. It was already bad enough, but it just gets worse every time I come back to this thread.
Bynum being too high was the first thing I noticed. Also how could you take Boozer above Gasol? Also their list seems to be based on "who would you rather have" instead of who is actually better. If that's the case then IMO Lebron should top the list. Any team would rather have Lebron over Kobe he is younger and has many more years of prime left. I really believe that Mitch would at least consider trading Kobe for Lebron (and other pieces, to make the $$ match up) if it were offered to him. Rather than a Stephen Jackson or even a Mike Miller I would have liked to see someone like Rashard Lewis make this list. I'm also surprised that Prince and Ray Allen aren't on here.
You could make the case for Pau but Boozer and Gasol are pretty comparable to me. I wouldn't highlight that at all really.
I would have to agree with Huevon for the most part, though I'd personally give the nod to Pau. I think he has a greater offensive skill set and they're equal on defense. Though, I'll definitely give Boozer the edge in rebounding.
Pau may be a huge softie, but there's not a lot of bigs in the league that possess his offensive abilities. He can finish in the post with either hand and he can step out and hit the mid-range jump shot. Oh yea, he's also a great passer for a guy his size and he can actually shoot FTs at a pretty high clip.
Yup, and that was proven in the Finals when he did a damn good job on Garnett, at least for the most part (game six was....yea).
Carter is a better scorer and a slightly better playmaker. Roy is a better defender. Both are good rebounders. Obviously, if I was starting a team, I'd want Roy. If I was playing for one season, it'd be close between Roy and Carter, and probably leaning towards Roy. Carter is still a top 30 player.
Carter might (and to me, that's a fairly big MIGHT) be the better scorer, but he's definitely not the better playmaker, that nod definitely goes to Roy. As for Carter being top 30 still....I don't know. In my book, he's a shell of his former self. Like I mentioned earlier, far too often he settles for an outside jumper and he doesn't go to the hoop nearly as often as he used to. Plus, Roy is at least a solid defender, Carter is below average in that aspect.
