It was brought up in the NBA General forum (you can click the link in my sig) under the thread CBS's top 50 player rankings that some people feel Vince Carter is a better playmaker than Brandon Roy. What do you guys think? Personally I think Roy is the better playmaker, but I'd like to hear other inputs
What does playmaker mean? If it means going 1 on 1 and shooting EVERY time, then maybe Vince is better. If it means breaking down the d and setting up other people to score then it's BRoy. I would rather have Brandon running my offense or having the O run through him then VC! Brandon makes other people better. Vince scores.
Because Vince can score...that means he can't be a playmaker, too? Well then, there's not way Cleveland can get into the playoffs. They don't even have a playmaker, just a bunch of scorers (and not-scorers)! Your logic doesn't add up.
Cleveland has LeBron James. LeBron played point guard in his first season with the Cavs. Vince has always been a forward. He's always been a scorer. But like I said, I think playmaker is too vague of a discription. I don't think Vince is much of a playmaker.
So? I don't even see how that makes sense. Lebron played alongside McInnis...McInnis is not a point guard? Lebron has always averaged more than 20 ppg throughout his career. How is he not a freaking scorer? And how is playmaker too vague? It means a player that makes plays! Not that hard to figure out.

(Roy's will continue to improve) Roy is quicker, and has more energy, and is the slightly better distributer at this point.
It's a lot closer than you think. Vince is a tremendous passer and he rarely get the credit he deserves in that area of his game. He's great at setting up his teammates. People who don't watch Nets games (you maybe?) don't realize that and just base your opinion off his past negative history, stats, and reputation. When Vince is playing to the best of his abilities, then he's the better "playmaker." When he's not, then it's Roy. It's definitely a closer call than people are making it out to be in this thread.
Vince is able to create his own shot at a higher level but Roy handles the ball much better and, IMO, has more of a team-first attitude in terms of passing the ball. I would vote that Roy is the better "playmaker". Ed O.
I just think a player like Kidd makes his team better, not Vince. Don't get me wrong, I love VC, I just wouldn't use the term "playmaker" to describe him.
You are switching terms and they are two very different terms. First you talk about making teammates better and now you are talking about making the team better. Since we are talking about playmaking, the focus should only be on making teammates better.
