Redd Looking Forward to Big Season

Michael Redd admitted it wasn’t easy staying informed about all the Milwaukee Bucks’ off-season moves. When the Bucks traded starting point guard Mo Williams to Cleveland as part of a three-team deal, Redd was with his U.S. basketball teammates in Beijing during the Olympic Games.

“LeBron (James) came down to breakfast and told me about it,” Redd said. “He said, ‘We’ve got your point guard.’ ”

Redd was smiling on Tuesday night as he and his teammates were introduced to season ticket-holders at a Bradley Center event. He talked with point guard Luke Ridnour, acquired in the Williams trade, and chatted with veteran forward Richard Jefferson, obtained in an earlier deal with New Jersey.

“It’s a whole new team, but obviously a talented one,” Redd said. “We have a mixture of veterans — Jefferson, (Francisco) Elson, Tyronn Lue — and we have some youth as well.”

Bucks television commentator Jon McGlockin did a short question-and-answer session with rookie Joe Alexander, center Andrew Bogut, Jefferson and Redd.

The crowd gave newcomer Jefferson a huge ovation, and McGlocklin said the June trade which brought the 6-foot-7 forward in return for Bobby Simmons and Yi Jianlian may go down as one of the best in team history.

“I’m excited,” Jefferson told the crowd. “It’s a great opportunity. I take with me a lot of good memories from New Jersey. It’s time for a new chapter in my life.”

Redd wore a jacket with the capital letters BEIJING on the back and said it was hard to sum up his fulfilling Olympic experience. He helped the U.S. regain gold as it swept through its Olympic opponents and turned back a serious bid by Spain in the gold-medal game.

“It was a great game,” Redd said. “Spain has five, six pros on its team. But obviously it showed who was the best team in the world.”

Redd said he will monitor his body after spending most of the summer practicing and playing for the U.S. squad. He did not wind up playing a lot of minutes during the Olympics, but there also were tune-up games, two training camps in Las Vegas and numerous practices.

“The body took a lot of wear and tear, no question about it,” Redd said. “We’ll see how it goes, and we’ll figure it out.

“It was draining, though. I’ve been trying to get revved up again the last few weeks.”

if they miss the playoffs this year he will probably be gone via trade.
