He apparently died over the weekend. Do you equate him more as an actor or the salad dressing dude? Me? I've never seen him in a movie, but I have bought his salad dressing many times before.
I've seen parts of that pool movie he was in with Tom Cruise. that's about it. don't really watch movies too much.
I never realized that he made salad dressing and popcorn and whatnot until after I saw his movies. It was one of those things I never considered, even though it was pretty obvious his face was on the box.
Supposedly his real passion was his food products, he was evidently very proud of the quality control.
Dude, seriously you need to go out and rent "Cool Hand Luke", "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid", "The Hustler", "The Verdict", and the creme de la creme, "Slapshot" ... how can you call yourself a good American if you've never seen a Paul Newman film?
Paul Newman was a fantastic race car driver and a successor race team owner as well - and did appear almost every year in Portland for the CART/Champ Car races. He will be missed.
Paul Newman was a star of stars, who hated self-promotion, never took himself seriously, and gave tens of millions to those that are less fortunate. You want the definition of "hero", it takes more than crashing a few planes--it means changing peoples lives. Newman was a star when "movie star" actually meant something.
