If in the upcoming season the Rockets don't make it past the 1st round of the playoffs should the Rockets trade T-Mac for a better PF or PG?
I think if they don't make it past the first round, it's time to break up the Yao/T-Mac duo. You obviously don't trade Yao.
may be next season,Rockets have big 3 now,if Rockets have a good result, mey be T-Mac will stay at Houston.
Houston would be a perfect fit for Iverson IMO. The other players there would cover up Iversons deficiencies very well, and he would be there go to scorer/playmaker that they haven't really had in the playoffs. Also, at each of their respective stages in their careers, i think i would take Iverson right now over Rip+Billups. I think Iverson will have a bigger impact for more seasons that Chauncey or Rip will have. If a trade wouldn't be possible hopefully Iverson will sign there after his contract is up.
Iverson has a lot more miles on his body than either of those guys, not to mention he is like 160 pounds, his body probably won't hold up as much as Billups.
If I had to choose between AI and Billups/Rip combo, I would go Billups and Rip. You get two guys who can play great D while provide scoring. They'll both benefit from Yao's passing out of double teams and cuts. AI is great, no question there, but his body has been beaten around all his career.
I'm sorry..Billups is a significantly better PG than Iverson, and to be totally honest I think Rip is a better 2 than Iverson. Call me crazy but Rip doesn't need 20+ shots to make an impact and is much more conducive to a team concept than Iverson could ever dream of. I think with the addition of Billups and Rip the Rockets could very easily be the favorite to come out of the West, obviously it could play out differently once the season started, but it's really hard to argue against the lineup Houston would have provided that trade went through. As a Pistons fan, I'd be pretty pissed if they gave up both of them for T-Mac.
Also, I think detroit would have to be stupid to not except something like Rip and Billups, for McGrady and Head/Barry. I think that improves Detroit, but they would just have a new system without rip and chauncey. The lineup could by Stuckey McGrady Prince Maxiell Sheed I think that looks much better then the one they have now.
How is it biased? When it comes to playing the 1, Chauncey Billups is the easy choice. Iverson has always been a 2 trapped in the body of a undersized 1. He can score, that's awesome, so can Billups. The difference is Billups will give you 10-15 every night while shooting efficiently, as well as dropping 10+ dimes while getting his teammates involved. When it comes to being a floor general Billups is one of the best in the NBA, maybe now with Chris Paul, Deron Williams and others coming into their own he might go down a few notches but that doesn't change Iversons standing in that category, which is at best Top 20. The reason why I would take Rip over Iverson at the 2 is because he isn't undersized, he doesn't have to dominate the ball the score, and once again, is efficient. If Iverson is as great as you say he is, why can't the Nuggets do anything? They have two 30ppg scorers and can barely get out of the first round, it's pathetic. And to be completely honest, I think Iverson probably is the main reason for that. Anybody else think I'm bias or do I just make sense?
Billups is one of the BEST non-flashy faciliatators in the league. He is an efficient shooter and an overall smart guy. This is not to say that AI isn't smart. But he is better suited at the 2 spot, and that's where he should be.
The Rockets trading Tmac, really depends on what they can get. I mean Yao isn't getting much younger, so the Rockets should make trades that would still keep them competitive.
In order to even barely get out of the first round, you must first make it out of the first round. Last I knew, they haven't even done that. As for this whole debate, only the biased would take Iverson over BOTH Rip and Chauncey. With those guys, you get two unselfish and very efficient players. For that matter, they bot play defense too, something that would instantly make them a good fit in Houston. And Answer....there's no way Iverson has a bigger impact for a longer period of time. He's what, 33 or so. and he's taken an absolute beating over the last 12 years. While Billups and Rip aren't too much younger, they haven't taken the beating that Iverson has. So, to me, there's no way you get more mileage out of Iverson in comparison to Rip and Chauncey. Also, Chauncey is a much, and let me repeat that, MUCH better PG than Iverson is. Iverson is a 2 trapped in the body of a PG. Chauncey is also a much more efficient scorer, better defensive player, better shooter, and an overall better player than AI. While you get flashiness and scoring from AI, you don't get much in the way of efficiency or defense, both of which you get from Chauncey. And Rip...I dunno, AI is obviously the better scorer here, but again, Rip is much more efficient than Iverson could dream of and again, he's a much better defensive player. He's also not undersized in the height category (though he is lacking in the weight category). Also to keep in mind, Rip and Chauncey have been winners for most of their career. They know how to win in the playoffs (as noted by the 7 straight ECF appearances as well as an NBA title)...Iverson can't say that. Iverson has been on some bad teams granted, but even in Denver he hasn't been able to win, despite being on an uber-talented team. In all, a combination of Rip/Chauncey will provide a much bigger impact than AI ever could.
Yao just turned 28, he still has at least 4 years of great ball. Either way a trade of TMAC for Billups and Rip would make them still competitors. PG: Billups SG: Rip SF: Artest PF: Scola C: Yao 6th: Battier 7th: Alston 8th: Landry That's a damn good team. I would have to put them at #2 in the league
Well that is an interesting trade, I think I would do it, but I'm not 100% sure. I don't know if Detroit would do it though, I mean they have the chemistry with Billups, Rip, Prince, and Sheed.
I was about to make this EXACT post. That's easily one of the best defensive teams in the league, both starters and second squad.
I don't think Dumars cares about chemistry at this point. He wants to win a title, and if he thinks trading away Billups and Rip to get TMac and fillers would win him a title, I don't think he'd hesitate to do it.
