Tito Ortiz expects to sign with EliteXC in a week, wants rematch with Frank Shamrock

    Everyone's favourite bobblehead Tito Ortiz was at the EliteXC show tonight and announced to the world that he is going to sign with EliteXC within a week. Probably. This is not the first time he has made a major announcement so don't schedule your Tito Ortiz EliteXC signing party just yet.

    The interesting thing about it is that he would like a rematch with Frank Shamrock. Tito fought Frank years back (UFC 22). Frank beat Tito by rope-a-dope in one of the most interesting strategical MMA fights of all time. Frank covered up and defended himself from damage for the first three and a half rounds while Tito spent all of his energy trying to get slams and finish by ground and pound. Towards the end of the fourth round Frank rolled Tito over, hit him a couple times, and won the fight. Tito was so exhausted he couldn't defend himself. It was this loss that led Tito to become arguably the hardest training fighter in MMA.

    Frank isn't a light heavyweight and I don't see Tito going down to 185 so if this rematch does occur, and it might be the only geniunely interesting fight Tito has left, it will probably be at a catch weight of 195-lbs. If Tito signs.

    Didn't they also announce that Elite XC is being combined with Affliction? (or something to that extent)

    They are co-promoting, but more like consolidating their debt.

    Affliction has attached themselves to EliteXC and to Golden Boy. It seems like they're trying to save money.

    So they'll have the same champions, etc, but keep both names.

    I don't think it is a merger, just co-promotion. Affliction doesn't really have any champions or belts--just a made up one they gave to Fedor.

    co-promotions eh? Maybe a Ken Shamrock vs. Fedor fight is next lol.

    Or Seth Petrocelli's 14 second KO of Kimbo has legimitized him as a HW contender to fight Fedor.

    Well I can understand not stripping someone if it something silly, what was it? something silly like weed, (Nick Diaz) or a prescription drug? or was it something like steroids?

    he got suspended for a year.

    elite xc is more concerned with staying afloat. If they get bad ratings from last night, they could be in some trouble.

    I wonder if Affliction will expect to have Gina Carano on one of their PPVs as a fair trade back :wub:

    Knocking out Kimbo is one thing, but fighting against a seasoned vet like Fedor who is arguably the greatest heavyweight fighter in the world of mixed martial arts is pushing it.

    and Seth would be in another 14 second fight, but he'd be the victim vs Fedor. unless he works on his back peddling, he could last 2-4 mins then ;)
