You are indeed correct, this is a political process. However, Kidd and Nash are from this era, and I thought CP3 performed at a level higher than I've ever seen from either of the other two. His playoff production also impressed me.
A better career? Possibly (depends on what one values), but I had him a tad below as far as who's on top at their peak. One could also say VC had a better playoff career, though that involves the PER formula. I don't like how you heap praise on Barry, and you basically say Barry is better than Carter because you say so... I thought that was hypocritical.
The number of PGs, Cs, and PFs that are better than him are irrelevant. Do you want me to draft another PG? Denny did not think about my team when he commented on how VC's not the "49th" best player ever. And I do not see another SG I'd rather have.
He had Reggie's shot and Nash's passing ability and rebounded like a power forward, 12 time all-star, 10 time all NBA/ABA first team (1 time 2nd team), 2nd highest career FT % in history. Carter's an 8 time all-star, 1 time 2nd team all-NBA.
You're overstating his rebounding ability, but Rick Barry >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Vince Carter.
You didn't follow all my posts War Poet. I didn't pick Vince Carter over Barry... But Barry isn't close to being a steal which Denny stated before.
No he had a longer career than VC, that's more like it. Good for him (I also feel one could say Rick was better, but I'm not happy with the semantics used here), see my retort to War Poet for the point though. Lol at the rebounding too, you know quite well why that is the case.
You realize Vince's 2nd all-nba team was like 7 years ago, right? Barry was the best SF in the league all those times when the league was smaller and every team had a shot at 2 extremely good SFs.
I know, but that was the topic at hand, correct? Either way, there are still a few SG/SF I'd take ahead of Carter. I don't agree that he'd be a very late pick in this kind of draft though.
Barry never dominated the league in the same fashion when he returned from the ABA. He was on teams that took 8000 shots a season. How does dominating a smaller league help his case anyway? If anything VC has more competition now because of monetary aspects of Basketball. That's an amorphous point at best.
No not exactly, and you are incorrect about the magnitude. That's arguable, but I did think the guards I liked would be gone by the fifth round. Whereas I had some other people slipping to me later if I am correct.
Instead of playing against the top 450 players in the world, he played against the top 150, every night. How old's Vince? 31? At age 31, Barry scored 31 PPG, 6 APG (when assists were harder to get by the rules), 6 RPG and 3 SPG, finished 2nd in the league in scoring and led his team to the championship.
So the ABA didn't take away any players? There are so many factors aside from that. The Nets take 1600-2000 less shots a season. I also thought that at age 29 Carter had the most impressive individual playoff run out of the two.
Isn't VC suppose to be in his prime right now? Prime is from age like 26/27 to 32/33 years old. I also read that VC had the most amazing playoff run out of either ppl but if we're going off playoff runs, why didn't Big Shot Bob go in the first few picks?
I don't care about some homeless version of Vince Carter. If you're somehow saying that one of the most athletic players to ever play in this league can not keep up in a "fast paced" era, then you're mistaken. PER is hardly perfect, but it gives a nice offensive insight on the tiers players are at; VC is top 30 all time. Maybe because Robert Horry is a freaking role player who couldn't even average 30 minutes a game. I didn't know VC had been demoted to this status. And I'd like to know when exactly I said that verbal flourish was the only barometer.
I bet it's cause he dropped to 50 something in the GM Draft.... (I'm promoting my drafts...sorry I'll shut up.)
damnit I was hoping Elvin Hayes would drop to me.......I knew a lot of people would forget about him.........great pickup I decided to go with McAdoo....................
