Exactly man, Seth was at an even bigger dis-advantage because he wasn't prepare to fight a a type of fighter that Kimbo or Shamrock are, the ultimate fighters, and he accepted it anyways. Kimbo on the other hand was prepared to fight Shamrock, who is a legend MMA fighter.

Re: Elite XC Heat: Live thread

My first impression of the show was that they totally killed any momentum they had by dwelling on Ken Shamrock's cut for the first fifteen minutes. They only needed a few minutes to explain it, get Kenny's quip about Kimbo needing a beating, then let Kimbo say he's down with whatever and then introduce Seth--done. Instead they lingered on it too much, almost as if someone had died, and the show got off to a really slow start.

Ninja Rua is back to his old inconsistent self. He looked so great in his last fight I thought he had his shit together. I guess not. He ate a lot of Radach's punches and had nothing for him. When the fight went to the ground Rua's BJJ wasn't there and his Thai boxing wasn't there when they got back up. From the first minute of the fight onward it was only a matter of time before Benji hit him on the chin and it was over. I don't know where he goes from here but it's not in Robbie Lawler's direction.

Gina Carano did enough to beat Kelly Kobald but if she is going to fight Cris Cyborg next--and she should--she'll have to do A HELL OF A LOT BETTER if she wants to stay upright and lucid. Cyborg isn't an amazing fighter but she has accuracy in her punches, something all of Carano's opponents have lacked thus far. Kobold was a lot of swinging arms and hugging against the fence and a few foot stomps but nothing actually threatening. Plus she looked out of shape, which is a bit stunning. Gina is at her best when she is doing ground-and-pound but for some reason she wanted to be a counter puncher tonight. If she fights Cyborg, she'll have to go back to the grab-slam-mount-pound routine she had going before.

Speaking of not being on their game, the third fight of the night had a third underwhelming performance by the heavy favourite. Andrei Arlovski was confused and at times defused by Roy Nelson's Greco-Roman wrestling and cage work. I don't know if AA expected Roy to trade with him or what but he didn't look interested in the close-quarters fight he was having instead. In his defense he did clip Roy with a good one, and Nelson had no right to act like he was fine when he flopped and rolled over like that. I was expecting something like when AA fought Cabbage but it wasn't to be. Affliction should be pleased the fight went OK but overall they probably won't think Arlovski was worth the $1,000,000+ they are paying him for tonights win, reportedly.

And the trend continues! Jake Shields gasses against Paul Daley within the first round and regresses back to wrestling and sloppy shoots against the 'explosive' Brit. For someone who wants to fight GSP and be considered the best, Shields showed he still has a long way to go before he is even close to being as well rounded as the UFC's welterweights. Shields had Semtex in the full mount in the first and second rounds for maybe three to four minutes--an eternity--and seemed to struggle mentally with what to do and how to finish. Kudos to him for being patient against a guy with little to no guard game, but he'll have to do better against someone who knows how to use their hips, bridge, and/or sweep.

For sure we were going to have a poor showing from Kimbo tonight too, according to the way the show was going, but I don't think anyone expected him to get knocked stupid by a jab five seconds into the fight. Somehow Seth Petruzelli, backing up and on one leg, threw a right jab/straight into Kimbo's head that not only knocked Kimbo down, but rendered him defenseless for the weak finishing onslaught to follow. It really makes me wonder now about Cage Rage and EliteXC--are these guys diving or what? Ken Shamrock really looked like he took a dive against Buzz Berry. Did Kimbo take one here? The guy has said he only fights for money so he has a lot to gain, especially with his opponents odds in the 3:1 or higher range. I don't think this loss takes him off the path XC has set for him aside from a fight with Brett Rogers (that can now only happen after Kimbo knocks over another can to regain his confidence?). Did he just play the whole MMA world for fools?

XC did their best to make excuses for them. "Bless their hearts" as Joe Biden's mum would say. The problem is that they billed Kimbo as someone willing to fight anyone, anywhere, anytime. Then they said he wasn't prepared mentally or physically to fight Silverback. So which is it? Or is Kimbo just a paper headliner?

So you're saying he sold the match? It is possible speeds, especially with the line like his, they could be betting behind (illegally of course, and make millions in the process).

Man what a weak showing by Kimbo. Theyre gonna start billing petrucelli as "rocky" and start feeding him cans to fight, milk him for all hes worth. His next fight will probably be Ken Shamrock and it will again be the "biggest upset in MMA history"

Kimbo is exciting to watch, so he'll sell them fights. I expect him to fight Ken in the future, probably even a rematch with this dude, and then a fight with Rodgers.

Ah yes, the great Kimbo Slice. The guy who was going to be better than Brock Lesnar.

Want to bet sites like Sherdog are going to be flooded with threads about how the fight was stopped too soon, or various other excuses why Kimbo got shafted. :biglaugh:

Re: Elite XC Heat: Live thread (Kimbo gets KTFO!!)

Damn Speeds! a little harsh on the fights are we?

Ninja Rua did look like a man without a game plan and didn't adjust well either. he needs to work his take downs a lot cause his stand up doesn't work vs strikers. It was still a decent fight and should have ended early if Benji didn't gas.

The Carano/Kobold fight was really good IMO. Sure Kobold tried too hard to get the take down and probably should have saved some energy, but she can take a punch that's for sure. Cyborg went the distance too last night so who knows what will happen if her and Gina match up, except that there will be fireworks.. oh and there will be blood too ;)

I though AA did well on the ground and was patient without getting into too serious of trouble. AA still needs to work his take down defence or at least his ground game more, but he loves his stand up too much and it will get him dominated by Fedor if they ever match up. I didn't think the fight was that bad, just that like kobold, Nelson was intent on getting the fight to the ground and that's what makes it a tad dull. I still enjoyed that fight.

Jake Shields look average in his fight and Symtex should be fighting in the states IMO. He made Jake work for his take downs and Jake can normally get a fighter down relatively easily. Shields may be top 10 at WW, but I wouldn't give him top 5 after that performance.

    and yay Seth!

FYI the Kimbo/Shamrock/Petruzelli fight is off the pick'em picks.

It's not fair to award points based on a switch of opponents at the last min like that.

What would the reaction have been if say Kimbo couldn't fight and Arlovski or Fedor fought Shamrock?

Arlovski told reporters he was ready to fight Kimbo last night if he was asked.

If we had a chance of changing the pick after the new fight was announced 100% of the posters here would have still picked Kimbo, knowing that Seth had no chance. So I don't see how points cannot be awarded to me and chococave.

That would have been a good fight.

Thinking more about it, I'm pretty sure now that Kimbo sold the fight, the way the announcers were building Seth up as "rocky", and having a lottery ticket, etc.

Re: Elite XC Heat: Live thread (Kimbo gets KTFO!!)

I don't think the fight was sold or rigged at all. Kimbo is their biggest sell, their biggest draw because he is like an every day joe turned cage fighter. They are not going to have him loose on purpose, he makes to much money for them as an unbeaten fighter. They didn't realise that Seth is a kickboxer and a precision puncher, would land one right on the button, and then drop Kimbo. I really do think that they know that Kimbo will sell more than Seth, so it wasn't smart to have him loose on purpose.

And whoever said it, they are right, Frank Shamrock is a giant idiot. Going out there ragging on Ken for training hard for a fight he needed to win, and worrying about how it will affect their legacy. Maybe he should have thought about that before getting his ass kicked for the Strikeforce middleweight championship at Cung Le's hands. He should really think about it, before deciding to take up another fight with Mr. Ortiz. He might have won the first time, but Tito Ortiz will wear him out for three rounds this time.
