FERGUSON has put his faith in crocked Scholes by giving him a new one-year contract.

Personally thought it would be nice to see him in some action after his recovery before granting him a contract, Fletcher's is deserved though.

Ferguson is by far the best coach in football for the last 15-20 years imo. I've always liked Scholes, but I don't see why he made a new contract, he should retire, he has had a great career but it's pretty much over.

Are you guys serious? Scholes is probably the second or third best player at United, even at his age. He doesn't have the ability to play in every game or quite as hard as he would like to now, but he is the most instrumental player at United when he plays. He is an awesome player, born and bred in Salford (where United actually are) and just his presence at the club is priceless. He will become a coach at United, and could be one of the best technical coaches in the World. That in itself is worth a new contract, even if you ignor the fact that his ability is good enough as well.

I never said he was "bad", he's just old. He needs to move on.

You aren't looking at the picture of football the way it should be looked at, and has for many decades prior to this one. More players should be "one-club players" - Scholes doesn't want to move on, and probably won't. I've got a feeling he may have said there's another team he wants to play for (small team) but that wouldn't be for a good few years yet. I don't see why he needs to move one - he's still one of the greatest players in the League, so why shouldn't he still be at the best team?

I agree on his day he is an Immense player but surely the whole point of a Very good player is Consistancy. OK so Ronaldo doesn't bang in a goal a game or Fabregas gets an Assist every game but they're there making the Difference, and since Scholes quit England he just hasn't had the same Penetration he used to. Plus people are going on about how Man Utd have lots of English/British players. How many play regulary now? Rooney, Carrick OR Hargreaves, Brown. With the Exception of Rooney none are English superstars IMO and none Up and coming stars either. Unlike Arsenal who have Walcott (Already an English hero) Wilshere who is pure class at 16, and a pretty good British midfield in General.

That's just not true, Scholes stayed at his best for longer after retiring from the England team. He now plays a different style of game which is slightly more defensive than it used to. He used to always be the player arriving late in the box, but now he is older can't continue to do this, so he plays a different game.

I think you're being slightly critical and even hypocritical about British players. Arsenal have been the worst perpetrators for years, with basically a French team being fielded for most games. United have Rooney, Carrick (best defensive midfielder for England just never given the chance), Hargreaves, Fletcher, Brown, Neville, Ferdinand, Giggs, Scholes and O'Shea who regularly (though not necessarily week-in-week-out due to their age) play in the first team. Then they have Jonny Evans, Frazier Campbell, Danny Wellbeck, Ben Foster, Ben Amos, Danny Simpson and Darron Gibson coming up through the ranks. These are all British players.

I'm not going to slate the Arsenal system for their lack of British players because I can't say I know enough about their squad to know just how many British players there are.

Scholes has adapted well since he has began to lose his pace, but I just feel as though he should step down, and let the youngsters have a go on the pitch. Perhaps I was being a bit drastic when I said he should retire, and I do take that back. If Scholes was to be put to the bench, or even lower than that, then imagine how much experience both Nani and Anderson could get - Maybe Nani could become a team player!

I hated that era when everyone linked Arsenal to a French team. Yes, we had a lot of foreign players on our team (mostly French), but we had a good team, did we not? Currenlty, the only French player we have are Gallas, Sagna, Clichy, Nasri, Silvestre (doesn't count!), and Diaby. I think Liverpool have more Spanish.

Wenger has begun to realize he needs to field more players and we currently have: Walcott, Wilshere, Emmanuel-Thomas, Gibbs, Hoyte, Randall, Simpson, Ogogo, and Lansbury climbing the ranks.
