McCain flat out calls Obama a liar among other things. If McCain is going to break this out durint the debate, it should get interesting.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Behind in the polls, Republican John McCain on Monday called Democratic rival Barack Obama a liar as he leveled his harshest criticism yet, and said the campaign boils down to one basic question: Who is Obama really

Yikes. The problem McCain has is that he needs to attack like this, but the tone is so much angrier (desperate?) than before that it feeds into his image of being erratic.

I really don't see how this can work for him. People have seen Obama in debates, and they can tell he's not another Reverand Wright or a secret muslim or a terrorist-lover. You can stick him with the lack of accomplishment line, but that didn't do Hillary any good (and she had "change" on her side).

Obama's got this Borg-like quality to him. He's uber-organized, he doesn't get emotional or excited, you don't really know what makes him tick, and he just...keeps...coming....at you. Try any tactic you want, but eventually you will be assimilated.

This is the political equivalent of being down by 3 touchdowns in the 4th quarter and going with a no-huddle offense, hoping your defense can get some three-and-outs or turnovers, and hoping you can recover an onside kick on the last possession to go for a tying score.

So my reaction to this news is "Duh ... what did we expect? That he wanted to lose?"

Problem is that this isn't the only game in town. Republicans stand to lose a lot of congressional elections, and if the leader of the ticket says and does things that gets him buried in double-digits, it's going to trickle down to the smaller elections too.

It's harder to do, but I'd have stayed the course in these final weeks if I were McCain. Be loud and steady and hope that an international event or an Obama blunder gives him a wedge to work with.

McCain is behind. And he is losing. He has nothing inspiring to say, and nothing of substance to offer us. The maverick label wore off a decade ago and since then he has been supportive of Bush and Bushs policies. Palin isn't helping him anymore, in fact at this point may even be considered a hindrance. His only choice is to go negative. He looks like a mean angry old man when he does, but at this point it is his only shot at winning. This strategy has worked well for the Republicans in the past when Democratic pussies have refused to play the game with them or waited too long to defend themselves. Obama does have some experience countering this though as Hilary went after him pretty good in the primaries. The next debate is critical. If Obama comes off weak and doesn't assertively defend himself and go toe to toe with McCain many people will see him as too weak to be president.

I'm of the mind that most of the Republican Party doesn't care whether or not they win this Fall. McCain is going to lose and the Democrats are going to have a filibuster proof majority in the Senate and a solid majority in the House. It's going to be a two-year Socialism steamroller. If it were me, I'd prefer to be back in the private sector.

If anyone can find a way to make the wheels fall off a steamroller, it's Congress, lol...
