Stephon Marbury?

I'm just throwing names out there, no rumors or anything. What would you guys feel about possibly adding Marbury to the team if the Knicks buy him out?

Obviously he'd be coming off the bench. If Dooling is our combo guard defensive specialist, could Marbury be our combo guard offensive specialist?

He isn't dead yet, the guy can probably still play at a good benchie level.

Would he REALLY kill our chemistry? Or is that just something the media makes you believe?

IMO he would be an ok addition to the team, as long as he doesn't bitch about playing for a losing team. He would stay close to home. We don't have much depth at the guard positions, so would anyone be against signing him for $1.5 a year/2 years?

It would be, by a wide margin, and with no hyperbole, the worst decision made in the Thorn era.

Every team he has left has had significantly more wins the next season. The media didn't do that.

It's definitely an idea kobimel, but the only situation in which it would make even slightest bit sense is if the Nets were championship contenders.

Right now the Nets are young and don't need any more veterans than they currently have stealing minutes from young players to develop and live up to their potential. I'd much rather sign Hodge and try to develop him on the cheap for a couple years.

I'm not Marbury's biggest fan, but I am one of the few people who do believe he can salvage his career. To each his own.

Just an idea to get the discussion here going since the season is approaching.

I absolutely dislike Stephon, so my answer is no. Players' attitudes can change but I'm not risking it by adding him to the roster. We have too many young guys. Do you really want Marbury mentoring someone like Harris? I don't think so. Marbury won't bring a positive aspect to any team, imo.

Not all vets are mentors. I don't think VC is a mentor, either.

Perhaps, but I don't want a guy like Marbury hanging around our team, anyway. It would be an unnecessary pickup.

Well, I don't think he'll take us to the next level, obviously. But put yourself in Rod Thorn and Bruce Ratner's heads: do you take a risk on a big-name player like Marbury, increase ticket sales (since the average fan doesn't give a crap about chemistry, he sees big names and buys tickets to go watch) and keep your fans interested at least for one or two seasons? Wouldn't you be intereseted in whether Marbury can still play? Wouldn't an average fan pay to see a Marbury/Carter backcourt, even though we're not in 2001 anymore?

I'm not saying he's a necessary pickup, because he isn't. I'm just looking at this from a different perspective.

The guy is a former star. Most Nets fans wouldn't think of the "former" part. They'll remember the guy who wore 33 before he was traded for Kidd, who granted didn't lead the team anywhere BUT did score a lot.

I don't agree with having Marbury here, sorry. I'd much prefer devloping someone like Hodge as our 3rd pg, and at a cheaper price.

The Nets are rebuilding. The Nets are emphasizing character and chemistry.

No one who is a Nets fan and/or in full possession of their mental faculties would even consider this move.

Sorry, Kobimel. I dont see how this helps us. The guy is f'en crazy. I dont want him around our young guys. I dont see what he can teach these guys besides sneaker art.

I just hope he goes to boston. So he can help them not win back to back championships.
