Terry will be off the bench. Seems that Wright and Carlisle met back when Wright was 17 at a Las Vegas Prep camp. For the Mavs, Wright would be the ideal player to start at the 2. Terry off the bench to back up Kidd. Wright has a lot of the defensive attributes that Kittles had, long limbs, good lateral quickness.
good for Wright. I had hope for him on opening night last season, if he can show more and more glimpses of that through the season, that would be a big plus for Dallas. a new coach can't hurt either, I suppose.
I thought Antoine could turn out to be a player. I wasn't happy when Nets traded Wright. As I REALLY don't like the Mavs, I'm not sure whether to hope AW succeeds or not. Same with Diop.
I think both are in with the right coach now. Damp-Diop will get about 20-24 minutes each a night. Diop has also developed an offensive game during the off season, so that will help him stay on the court. I think if Wright can play without a leash, he will do well. Put him in the starting lineup, he's the perfect fit between Kidd-Dirk-JHo. Doesn't need the rock to succeed, will catch the Kidd passes and finish.
Terry would be a spark off the bench with his shooting capabilities. However, I don't think Wright is good enough to start 82 games. He just hasn't shown it yet, so I'm not sold. The guy who was drafted because of his shooting has struggled since he's been in the league. Of course I understand Wright could start because of his defense, but he needs to put the ball in the hole when he's open.
if Wright ever starts making basket on a regular basis I would probably regret we let him go. As of now he's one dimensional player with zero offense.
If Wright breaks out in Dallas, there is only one reason in my mind why he did not break out in NJ: bad coaching. I honestly don't expect Wright to become anything better than 12 ppg scorer based on how he performed when given the chance in NJ. If he does average 15+, then Frank did a bad job with him.
Frank was one of Antoine's biggest supporters, what else was he gonna do with AW? We were still dealing with the big three while we had Wright, not to mention Marcus, Mikki, Josh and sometimes Nenad. He got all the opportunities that were available. Wright is a serviceable guy that coaches love but no way in his time here did he prove that more plays should be run for him. I have a feeling his defensive presence in the starting lineup is due to the lack of one from his backcourt mate as much as it is the usual sound plays he makes.
I think with Kidd allowed to create for players that do not need the rock in their hands to succeed(VC), all 4 players will just need to catch and finish, with a shooter like Dirk on the perimeter it opens up the passing/slashing lanes for Howard and Wright. The new thing in Big D is the motion offense, moreso movement to create offense.
