He lost my respect since week 2, and he probably would have lost my respect in week 1 if I watched it. He just makes WAY to many mistakes and he doesn't see things fast so we can gain more yardage, he is just a bum that forces balls in to coverage then gets PICKED OFF! If it wasn't for our running game we would have won the Bengals game. He needs to clean his act up and start making good decisions, or........ I don't even know. He just needs to get shit straight.
IMO Romo is still the guy who's trying to make plays, except rather than use his feet and looking for a <10 yard pass he's staying in the pocket and trying to work his magic 20 yards downfield. Needless to say, it's not working (way too many INT's in the endzone already).
His INTs: Against Cleveland: Owens ran the wrong route. Hardly Romo's fault. Against Philly: Romo's fault. Against Green Bay: someone ran the wrong route, which meant 3-4 defenders in an area that shouldn't have been there.... not Romo's fault Against Washington: Horton makes a great play. Its as simple as that. Romo's fault? Sure. But that's a throw he should have thrown. Against Cinci: Rivers makes a great play. Romo's fault? Sure. But it was a ball that should have been thrown to. If a defender makes a great play, so be it. That's part of the game too. The only INT where Romo deserves to be mercilessly ripped on was the Eagles one. Against Cleveland, he needs to be absolved completely. Against Green Bay, not his fault either. Blame him for Philly, and Wash/Cinci. But realize that the Wash/Cinci INTs were simply great plays made by the defender. It happens.
One other thing: Romo is going to take chances. So is this offense. Its built on that. We'll throw some INTs. But we'll also do things, like the Green Bay game....when faced with 3rd and 20, we score a TD. Not many teams can do that. We can. Its a byproduct of having someone like Romo. The good comes with the bad. And as long as the good outweights the bad (and it has), you live with it. 11 TDs; 5 INTs (2 of which, aren't Romo's fault). I can live with that. We'll turn it over. But we are going to score. A lot.
Romo is a gunslinger, he is going to throw INT's. Fortunately for the Cowboys, he'll throw more TD's than INT's. Why do I have the feeling Moo is absolutely going to shred the thread starter?
It just seems that Romo has a knack for coming up short in big situations (like the palyoffs) so it appears to be worse than the numbers suggest.
He came up short in his first career playoff game. So did a lot of QBs. Eli Manning, Peyton Manning (IIRC), Palmer, Campbell, etc all lost their first playoff games. Oh hai. I see what you did. You must be including the Giants game. Problem is... that's not why we lost. Fasano dropped a TD pass. Not Romo's fault. Crayton hesitated on a potential game winning TD pass on 3rd down. Not Romo's fault. Crayton dropped a wiiiiiiiiiiide open pass on a 3rd and 15 or so that could have easily set us up in the red zone, if not score. He'd have finished the day with 3 TDs and 0 INTs (there wouldn't have been the 4th down INT, we'd have already scored). None of those plays where in the hands of Romo. He did everything right on those plays; his receivers came up short. So Romo gets criticised. Brilliant! ____________ When he took over as starter, we were faced with a game against an undefeated Indi team in a must win scenario for our playoff hopes. Romo responded; we won. Last year, the game in Philly, our proverbial "monkey off our chest".... Romo was damn near perfect. Hostile conditions, much needed win, divisional opponent. He more than stepped to the plate. Last year, in NY, road game in hostile conditions, maintain our division lead, Romo struggled (as did Eli), but when the game was on the line, led us on scoring drives. He kicked it in when we needed him too. Last year, at home against Green Bay, for first place in the Conference and a likely #1 seed on the line... Romo rose to the occasion. He's faced big games before. The only one where he faltered was the Seattle game. And that has nothing to do with a botched snap. That has nothing to do with his ability as a QB.
Romo can't win argument: As a full time starter: he is 17-4. Lost to Washington on the road (Romo played 1/2 the game... I suppose I will count that, lost to New England at home, Philly at home, Washington at home). Meaning, he is a staggering 9-1 on the road between last year and this year. And career wise, he is 13-2 on the road (if we include the 06 season, we he started 10 games). I forget. Is winning on the road difficult?
FWIW; Rivers is on pace for 35 TDs and 13 INTs I can live with that. More Easily. [/post pad] I don't like Romo, I think he is overhyped, but he does have talent. I think the media is far too critical of him when he does screw up. Because he is the QB of "America's Team" though, he is going to face that scrutiny more often than not.
I'm not just talking about the interception, I'm talking about the stupid throws he makes and how he throws them. And he FUMBLES a lot and doesn't protect the ball he is so careless, he is really starting to piss me off. I'm going to go out and say he will throw an interception this week against Arizona.
"Tony Romo is all bad. The poor things he does happens all the time. I'm going to bet that he isn't perfect on Sunday."
The dude is clutch man. I hate admitting it, but one freak play shouldn't overshadow how he plays towards the end of the game. There are only a handful of QB's in the league that can engineer timely scoring drives in 1-2 minutes and Romo's one of them. God, I can't believe I'm defending Romo. To make myself feel better, I'll post my favourite Romo picture:
Buddy that's not Tony Romo in the picture it's Drew Bleadso. See the one on his jersey and you can also tell that's Drew by the facemask he is wearing.
The fumbles piss me off. There isn't a reason to fumble (usually... I can understand a DL forcing a sack/fumble). As for his INTs.... yeah, he'll throw some. But he's also going to convert crap most QBs cannot. 3rd and 20 against Green Bay? TD pass. That TD pass to Curtis last year when he was about to get sacked several times over? TD pass. He just makes stuff happen. And as long as the good stuff outweighs the bad stuff... you live with it. Happily. He played poorly against Cinci IMO. Poorly, as in, not the elite caliber I'd expect. Rather, he was mediocre. And he still threw for 3 TDs.
And Chutney is exactly right. And the painful part is... Eli looks like he is heading down the same path. He did it in the playoffs. And he's picking up where he left off. Right now, the NFC East is getting some great QB play. Its only making the division that much tougher.
I'd argue that Eli always had it. One of his redeeming qualities during the early years was his ability to forget 3 quarters of mediocre play and engineer some pretty ridiculous comebacks. The key recently has been the consistency. Now you genuinely feel like he can step it up a notch at any given moment. I think the best example of Romo's clutchness was that Buffalo game last season. I remember getting on my brother (a Cowboys fan) so much for most of that game, waiting for it to finish so I could bash what was probably Romo's worst game as an NFL QB. What he was able to do at the end of that game was beyond clutch. It definitely annoyed the hell outta me.
