He definitely played better as the game wore on. I would assume there is still rust that needs to be worked off and a new offense and teammates to adapt to. I'm hoping his playmaking will improve.

I hope Devin doesn't get to absorbed into scoring too much and forgets about finding others on the court. He had a lot of points yesterday but he definitely needs to remember he's the point guard, and althogh he is a scoring PG he still needs to have some playmaking abilities. I do agree with FOMW though, he did find Vince and RJ alot last season but I just hope that he didn't think over the offseason that he just wants to come in and score this season like RJ did last year.

im going to be calling sean williams "omar bartlett" for the rest of the season, this is too good to pass up, anybody with me?

or maybe i'll call him sean when he plays well and omar when he makes those bone-headed plays, this could be fun

ex: "man, sean made that sick block to force OT, but then omar blew the game when he fouled wade on that desperation three"

Gill is and will be terrible as our PG. He has no penetration skills and picks up his dribble extremely early. No type of vision, and no passing skills. Defensively he was plain average. Only upside was that he made his contested jumpshots. I would of picked Jaycee over this guy.

I also think if Devin is that good at getting to the paint/breaking defenders, then he should always look to score FIRST before passing the ball. When he's at full speed/force it puts all the pressure of the defense to stop him.

Really? You think getting to practice and play with new teammates for a month might help Devin and the newcomers get more familiar with each others styles of play?

Yes. And on the other side defenses get more organized too.

But if you think he's on par with some of the other young point guards in regards to his play making ability, ok, but I feel otherwise.

Differences of opinions are what make the world go around.

And if Vince is healthy and playing unselfishly, I wouldn't expect Harris to average more than 7 APG.

But all will be revealed during the regular season.

This is exactly what I am worried about. I dont want him to be a score first PG. I want him to be balanced. If you look at CP and DWill they are balanced. They score and pass. Disclaimer: I am not saying he is as good as them.

Neither CP or DW have Vince as their backcourt mate. I would expect Devin to get most of his assists due to his speed and quickness, and getting up the court very quickly on offense.

Vince does not like to run the floor on offense, which will cost Devin some assists.

And on many occasions, once the ball is passed to Vince, Vince will be running the offense, costing Harris assists.

I'm VERY HAPPY having Harris instead of Kidd.

A system has to be devised to take advantage of Harris' scoring abilities.

We all would have had Jaycee over Gill.

Why wouldn't you want someone to score if he can get into the paint for free and is a strong finisher? That's going to force double teams and more opportunities to score for others. Not saying he shouldn't pass...but his drive and aggression is what's going to make this offense work.

An attempt for balanced scoring will not work in our favor.

Not me. While Gill is less of a "talent" that's almost worthless since Jaycee doesn't fit with the guys who are making the final roster. If Jacyee is going to get a shot with the Nets he's going to do it as a SG masquerading as a PG. Gill isn't going to wow you guys, and he's not really supposed to. He's playing with CDR, Anderson, and other young guys who are going to make the team and need opportunities. If Jaycee got out there and took 10 FGAs rather than giving CDR the ball (See: Rockey Mountain Revue) we wouldn't have had an honest look at CDR at the expense of letting a young guy put up a lot of shots who won't even make an impact at the position he's trying to play.

Jaycee wouldn't have been a good fit. At the summer league game in Orlando, he drove on pretty much every possession, and had but a single assist. That's not what this team needs. Yes, they need a PG whose shot has to be respected--to keep the defense honest--but he has to get others involved, too. And Carroll hasn't really shown a reliable outside shot, anyway.

I think Gill would be fine for 5 minutes a game--he seems pretty self-assured, and is unlikely to do anything stupid. Is he comparable to Anthony Johnson?

Of course, it is still unlikely that he will make the team. Not only would the Nets have to purge themselves of someone like Ager or Hassell without getting someone back, but he would have to beat out Hodge, and anyone else that is cut from another team and looks intriguing.

Gill didn't provide anything for CDR either. CDR got his touches when VC got injured with Devin. He also played the passing lanes as well. Gill can't penetrate, picks up his dribble, holds the ball too long, has no vision, and is an inaccurate passer. He'll either kill the shot clock, make a TO. or hoist a contested long range J (although surprisingly, he made some). You'll get the Jaycee effect, just at a slower rate and with no scoring. But with Jaycee, at least you have something to work with.

CDR's the steal of this draft. He will be a starter in this league.
