Who's on the off-season trading block?

Pretty simple question, who do you see being available this off-season in the trade market? What would each team want in return for said player?

The Marlins may be the most active, possibly looking to move second baseman Dan Uggla, first baseman Mike Jacobs, and or starting pitcher Scott Olsen. All are still young, relatively cheap, above average players. The Marlins are looking to improve their on base percentage and might be willing to sacrifice the pop in the lineup for it. All three mentioned will be getting raises soon.

The Mets will be active in discussions but may not do much. Everyone in the bullpen is available, but none are wanted after their stellar performance this year. Aaron Heilman is most likely to go from that group. He had a horrible year, but there may be a few teams out there who still think he can be a capable starter. Luis Castillo could be had for a bag of balls and a few million dollars to offset the salary. Carlos Delgado could be available for the right package, but he would be hard to give up after he carried the team for a portion of the year. Now would be the time to "sell high" on him, imo. The only players on the Mets who really have no shot at being traded would be Carlos Beltran and Johan Santana. I expect Jose Reyes and David Wright to be back, but their names could come up in trade rumors this off-season. The Mets have a few holes, but you can be sure the bullpen trumps all others.

The Giants will spend most of their off-season trying to find a third baseman and help at first base while adding some much needed pop to their lineup. Tim Lincecum has moved himself into untouchable status, and despite an up and down season, Matt Cain isn't far behind him. Jonathan Sanchez will probably be back after slowing down and then getting injured late in the year. His stock isn't high enough to get something worth giving up a twenty five year old starter for. Randy Winn will be available and could be attractive to a contending team needing veteran leadership. He is an above average outfielder defensively with a decent bat, but almost no power. He's also in the last year of his contract. Nate Schierholtz would be his replacement in right field. Bengie Molina could be available to a contending team needing a solid presence behind the plate. Molina lead the team in HR's and RBI's this year, but the Giants have Pablo Sandoval (and eventually top prospect Buster Posey) ready to take over. The Giants would pay someone to take Dave Roberts (last year of a 3 year, 18 million deal) or Barry Zito off their hands.

Some names that come to mind, no particular order:

    Dan Uggla
    Matt Holliday
    Adrian Beltre
    Brian Roberts
    Bronson Arroyo
    Mike Jacobs

If I knew where to find players' contracts I'd name off some more.

Rays pitcher Edwin Jackson- he is a very athletic player with a 95 mph fastball 14 game winner with a ERA in the mid 4's, could throw a no hitter every time out but gets rattled easy then his pitches cant find the strike zone and forces him to hang a lot of pitches. David Price will take over his spot and there is tons of future starting pitching waiting. The Rays will probably want a young RF in return, or a good reliever because I expect Troy Percival, Trevor Miller, and Chad Bradford to be let go.

Why not Sonnanstine? Do the Rays think he'll be better than Jackson?

Assuming Manny is let go, the Dodgers are looking at an outfield of Ethier/Jones/Kemp. I would want Pierre starting in center field over Jones.

Jackson sure has the most potential but cant control his pitches when he is rattled which can easily happen. Sonnanstine has great control and has a lot of good pitches, he wont overpower anyone but will pitch a great game most of the time. Sonnanstine can also make a move to the pen quite easily, Jackson just takes too long to get settled into a game. Jackson also is dominant in 3 or 4 innings then gives up a huge inning, sonnanstine will give up one of two in an inning but typically wont have a horrible inning like Jackson.

Next year there will be competion at the #5 postion with along with Sonnanstine and Jackson assuming Price is #4:
    Jeff Niemann (ready-mlb experience)
    Wade Davis (1/2 year away)
    Jacob Mcgee (1 year away)
Mitch Talbot (ready bullpen, mlb experience)
    Jeremey Hellickson (1-1.5 years away)

*note: Jackson is on the ALCS roster now, he wasnt on the ALDS roster*

I'm starting to believe the Dodgers are going to keep Manny, there making tons of money on his merchandise plus people are going to the games.

And Juan Pierre wants to be an everyday player, he could leave.

If Manny leaves then we keep sorry as Juan.

No way. The Dodgers are not going to hang on to Manny. They saw what he pulled in Boston. Say what you will about merchandise sales but the Dodgers would be foolish to keep Manny, at the money he'd be making and putting him in the kind of clubhouse he could tear up within minutes.

Neither Juan or Andruw Jones can hit. But Juan can run. Andruw cannot. You be the judge.

The Dodgers were shit before Manny, this run is going to convince Ned to resign him. even if he becomes a problem in the clubhouse.

I think Ned is smarter than that.

Regardless of what they may be feeding the local sports stations around there, Manny was acquired for this season only.

Ned is super smart, he signed Andruw Jones, Jason Schimdt, Juan Pierre to a 5 year deal, signed an injury prone Garciaparra. Dude is the best GM.

Dodgers keep Manny. Do you really think he'd want to leave LA where he obviously enjoys playing? The dude proved he can turn it on when he wants and now he actually has an incentive.

When he wants. Or, when his contract is winding down and he's in line for a boatload of money.

Sounds like Jacobs is on his way out, but Uggla will be staying. That's probably the right decision for them. Good to see they are going to add payroll, and that Kansas City is looking to add some quality MLB players for once.

Sonny is tremendous. He is similar to Greg Maddux, but doesn't quite have the same pinpoint control. He's a thinker, and a great change from Kazmir and Shields (and Price).
