Re: Series Thread: Boston Red Sox vs. Tampa Bay Rays; SERIES TIED 1-1 Game 3 is going to be a very interesting game because of the two young pitchers that are starting. Matt Garza has the most overpowering pitches of all the Rays starters but gets really wound up and struggles on the road. In the ALDS he tried to block out the crowd with ear plugs but those only lasted 2 innings before he pulled them out. Rays ideal pitching situation is: Garza goes 6 innings of good pitching JP Howell comes pitches an inning where David Ortiz comes up Chad Bradford in the 8th, LHP Trevor Miller if Ortiz comes up Grant Balfour to close because after Wheeler going 3 1/3 inning wont pitch Game 3, 50-50 Game 4. The problem with having wheeler not pitching in Game 3 is that if the Rays get into a bind in an inning, Maddon has to use Balfour because he is overpowering but then who will close the ball game, bradford maybe to close, David Price just doesnt have to ability right now to start fast and get out of a jam like Balfour does. The other thing is that the Rays offense has struggled greatly against left handers. It has been eased a little bit with Baldelli who will DH against Lester, but the question is RF. Gabe Gross typically starts there but is a lefty and to get the best matchup does Joe Maddon put out Fernado Perez who scored the game winning run who plays great defense and can flat out run or Ben Zobrist who is a utility man who recently has developed some good power. Both are switch hitters, but I think Maddon goes with the experience of Zobrist and cuz Perez has only played LF and CF.
