I think I got the name right... How has he been doing in place of Merriman. Obviously, he isn't Merriman... but how has he played?
Jyles is good. Unfortunately, against the Jets he hurt his hamstring and has been out since. He is still a couple weeks away. From what he did play, he did get a nice amount of pressure on the QB (3 sacks). He's a sufficient replacement and is going to turn into a pretty good OLB if you ask me. There is a lot of talk out here in SoCal that Merriman is on his way out of SD after next year because AJ Smith doesn't like his off the field activities (endorsements, other gigs, who he hangs out with, etc..). I tend to believe this is true; as they just locked up Jyles to a 5 year extension. Can't wait to get him back on the field!
There's also the issue of paying Merriman. Healthy, he'd command a mint. Coming off this injury... its more of a risk. Interesting that the Chargers are thinking of letting him go though. How athletic is Jyles?
He's not Merriman athletic, but he's athletic enough to hold his own and be a rushing force. I don't know how he is as a leader though. He doesn't seem like a leader, which is a huge loss in Merriman.
