Apparently the Wizards' Brendan Haywood will have surgery to repair torn ligaments in his wrist, and will be out 4-6 months. That would leave Washington with Antawn Jamison, Andray Blatche, JaVale McGee, Darius Songalia, and Etan Thomas to fill the PF and center positions. Thomas, of course, is a huge risk after last season; McGee is an unproven non-lottery rookie; and Songalia is just blah.

This may be an opportunity to flip Swift. The Wizards, of course, are publicly stating that they think they still have enough firepower without Haywood, but it is hard to see. One more injury and they will have just four bigs on the roster. They have little depth at SF, as well, so it would be hard to just slide someone over. Right now their depth chart at SF includes Pecherov, Linton Johnson, and Dominic McGwire.

It will be interesting to see what develops. I think the Wizards are over the cap, and so would have to give back Swift's salary unless they have an exception in hand.

I'd rather have 6 million come off the books than pick any of those guys up.

unless we get back Butler or Young, I wouldn't be too interested. I doubt we could get Butler, but maybe Boone for Young?

There's a couple teams that could use Swift the problem is they are over the cap and getting back something decent. Both Miami and Washington could use him, but they have nothing the can give us. Washington won't give up Daniels.

Wish there was someone that made about $14mm with one or two years left on there deal that we could send Hassell, Swift and KVH for. Unfortunately there isn't.

I think you are right, and the upshot is that neither Gill nor Hodge will make the team. Dooling will be the sole backup PG (but Vince will bring up the ball alot as well). I really think this team will surprise and can win 40 games, but if Devin gets hurt and is out for awhile, it could be a dealbreaker.

Miami is also pretty thin in the front court.

Any trade possibility there for Marion?

Simmons + Swift + 1st round pick (from Golden State) for Marion?

Unfortunately, the only way I can see to trade Swift is to a team with cap space or a trade exception, or to combine him with someone like Lopez or Sean Williams (and it sounds like Sean may be a hard sell anyway).

At least Swift isn't a troublemaker or a malcontent. He is just bordering on useless.

It would be best if both Swift and Hassell were off the team, and it has nothing to do with saving money and cap space. Those are the two most overpaid players on the team, and there really isn't much of a role for them. They are using two important roster spaces--and roster spaces are a form of currency.

Will Nets be re-signing Shawn for the $16 mil per he wants when this season is over?

Disagree on Hassell. I think he can serve a role. Though I'd certainly trade him for a legit 3rd PG.

    FYI
    http://sportstwo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=125828

Vince is 25:1 to win the MVP
Nets are 100:1 to win the championship. So are the Knicks and Bobcats. The teams with worse odds are Oklahoma City, Minnesota, Sacramento, Milwaukee, and the Pacers.

what are the odds that the Nets make the playoffs? I happen to think that they are better than Miami, Washington, charlotte, Atlanta, Indiana, the Knicks, and about equal with Toronto.

I also think that there is a 0% chance that lawrence Frank will be fired (as opposed to the first, which the oddsmakers believe), and I would make that bet.

Their odds to make the playoffs would be the same as the Knicks' and Bobcats', and better than Milwaukee and the Pacers.

Hahaha...no way Miami do that trade man, come on. That's nowhere near what Marion is worth, I think they'd rather just let him play this season and get his big contract off the cap in the summer. Much better than having two pretty useless guys on the roster instead.
