The block. Scratch that. There was no punt. The "oh lookee, I blew my blocking assignment and the punter had the ball snatched from him."
You know what is ironic. I was watching that play with my dad and I said to him that I was surprised he wasn't injured and a lot more punters aren't injured on punts. Now I feel like I cursed him.
This is actually pretty significant. I know most people will be like "he's a punter." But with Johnson at the helm... field position becomes even more important. McBriar can flop field position.
Punters are huge. I believe the Chargers have the best punter in the league in Scifres, if he were to go down, we'd lose the field position game more times than not.
Are we going to replace him? Do we just go for it on 4th down from now on? (Not serious about that last one)
If we don't IR him, we have to hold his place on the 53 man roster. We could very well end up IR'ing him. Or we can bring in a new punter (and then have to keep 2 punters on the 53 man roster for the time being). And then there's this.... Folk punted in college, too. Possibility?
Talk about a pretty big blow for us. We lose Newman...then Romo...now McBriar. The shit storm just keeps piling up on us. While he's "just a punter", his ability to flip-flop field position is huge for us, especially considering how poor our defense has played, and that's something that's going to be missed dearly.
Yes it will. Time for the defense to bail us out. The offense spent a good portion last year and this year bailing the defense out. Time for the defense to return the favor. I'd feel a lot better about it if Newman was playing... but that doesn't matter. We have a 1st round draft pick and a 5th round draft pick invested this year. They will have to step up.
This is awesome, I love how everything is going so far for us. We're going to win the Superbowl don't worry ;D
