No, that was a moronic trade by Dallas. What's better than one needy, disgruntled receiver? Two of 'em!! Now Romo has to worry about divying up throws between Owens and Williams to keep them from getting pissed off, while still throwing enough balls to his biggest receiving threat, Witten, and giving the ball to Felix Jones enough times a game so he can make a good contribution.

The Cowboys offense is most effective when Felix Jones is breaking huge runs and Jason Witten is getting the ball through the air. They already had one wideout, T.O., who was unhappy about his role in the offense. Now they have two. Throw in the fact that they gave away a 1st and a 3rd round pick (a crime in of itself), and Dallas just made a horrendous desperation trade.

Owens should be unhappy with his role in Dallas right now. He has every right to be.

Garrett's stopped using him the way he did last year. Slants? Nada. Crossing route? Nada. Moving him around? Nada.

Owens is excited Williams is in town. Garrett needs to pull his head out of his ass and get creative. He was last year. This year, its almost like Parcells's mantra of "line em up, and we'll beat em."

Also... I'm not sure how stupid the trade is.

The reality of it is, we'd be hard pressed to draft a WR better than Roy. It could happen. There is no denying that.

We still will have like 11 draft picks next year. Which, is still too many for this team. We'll have to do some packaging.

People said the same thing when we had Owens, Glenn, Crayton as our 1-3. Plus Witten, plus Barber/Jones.

This is the same scenario. Except, with a more seasoned Romo.

For the future, this could work. Williams will aptly fill the #1 receiver role once Owens is gone.

Felix Jones is far better running back than Julius Jones, and the Cowboys are most effective when he's running the ball. Witten is their steadiest pass catcher, he deserves the ball a lot more than Owens or Williams.

Also, Glenn wasn't a pain in the ass like Williams has been lately. Glenn was just injury prone. Best case scenario, its a lateral move for Dallas. Worst case scenario, Philadelphia passes them. IMO, that's all too possible now.

On a side note, Adam Jones needs to be released ASAP to avoid any further chaos. Like they need it with another big-headed receiver in town.

best case scenario it's a lateral move? seriously?

best case scenario would be that with roy williams added to the receiving core, opposing teams aren't able to double owens anymore or if they do decide to double owens, the cowboys have williams making big plays on the other side. also, the presence of another bigtime receiver will force teams to focus a little bit less on the cowboys running attack(since they now have to cover owens, witten, and williams) which will open up more space for barber and felix to be more effective and make some more big plays themselves.

    Let's add it up:

1). Both Roy Williams and Terrell Owens need enough (translation: a lot) passes thrown each of their ways to keep them from getting butthurt.

2). Jason Witten is the steadiest pass catcher the Cowboys have, their offense is a lot more effective when he's getting the ball more as opposed to the wideouts. Of course now, that will be difficult with two difficult receivers in town, as opposed to one.

3). Felix Jones, anyone? He deserves the ball more than anyone, and he makes shit happen. When he's running his ass off, Dallas is a whole better than when they're playing strictly the air game.

You can't have it every way you want it. There isn't enough ball to go around.

Although I could see Owens having a problem with is, I think Roy Williams is a great addition to the team.

#1. He will be able to take the #1 receiver role from Owens when he retires.

#2. Roy Williams will be seeing coverage from the #2 cornerback now.

#3. The Cowboys have 2 Roy Williams on there team, how sweet is that?

Dallas is third in the NFL in yards per game, pass yards per game, total passing yards, and points per game. They're fifth in rush yards. Their offense isn't having any trouble scoring. They didn't need another receiver, especially not Roy Williams. How is this NOT a lateral move? The Cowboys are close to the top of the NFL in a lot of NFL offensive categories, especially through the air. Tell me Roy Williams makes their offense THAT much better. He has a much bigger chance of hurting them than helping them. And if he does help, it won't be an earth-shattering contribution either.

lets say that hypothetically a team has the best offense in the league. they then add a player who improves their offense. that still improves the team even though the offense doesn't move up a higher rank in the league.

who cares if the cowboys aren't currently having trouble scoring points? if this move makes them even better at scoring points, it's an improvement and definitely not a lateral move. by saying this is a lateral move, you're saying that roy williams is essentially the same level receiver as crayton and austin. believe that if you want, but i'm going to have to disagree.

the cowboys are throwing the ball 33 times a game right now. there are plenty of throws there for witten, owens, and williams to all see the ball enough. and really what makes players more happy than just throwing the ball their way for the sake of doing it, is being given the opportunity to make big plays. if you told owens that he was going to be targeted half as many times per game now that williams was on the team but in those targets, he was going to have 2 or 3 times as many chances to go deep on single coverage i bet he'd be more than happy with that.

they do need to try to get felix jones involved more. right now he's averaging 5 carries per game and that's not enough. but getting him a few more carries isn't going to suddenly mean that someone else isn't getting the ball enough.

as long as the cowboys are putting their playmakers in position to make plays, no one is going to get unhappy about lack of touches.

If your team isn't performing up to expectations, but offense is not the problem... why would you try to solve the problem by acquiring more offense? They are pretty close to the top of the NFL in most important offensive stats. Trying to fix a team that has no problems offensively by going out and overpaying for more offense (and a knucklehead) is pointless, stupid, and shows Jerry Jones' lack of common sense in the situation along with his desperation.

That's another thing to think about... why would Jones be so desperate to acquire someone... anyone... if he didn't sense that things were heading downward anyway?

Its a lateral move because Williams is an unneeded big-name receiver moving into what is now a cluttered offense. He's not going to get the ball any more than T.O. does, and T.O. has (however unwillingly) taken a back seat to Jones and Witten so far this season.

This isn't that offense right now. They're not going to go to Owens and Williams non-stop (at least they haven't so far, and I doubt we'll be seeing an abrupt change in philosophy at this point). Dallas is best served using Felix Jones more out of the backfield, as he's been more than dynamite with the rock this year (8.9 yards/carry), combined with the short passing game with Witten and Crayton. You're also forgetting that Marion Barber is second on the team in receptions, he's a guy who also makes a lot of things happen when thrown to (or when he gets the handoff). He also needs his fair share of receptions, not to keep him happy, but because he makes shit happen. So you can throw him on that list too.

What that amounts too, is 3 guys in the short passing game, and 1 dynamite running back, that make the most of their oppurtunities with the ball. That's before you get to Owens and Williams. Why abandon what has worked so far, in favor of the desperation fix by Jerry Jones?

Well, one would think that every time Felix gets a carry, that's one off the 33 times a game the ball is being thrown.

Once they discover just how few chances they have to make those plays, then it will get dicey.

Yeah he is Jerry Jones' new advisor I think. The first thing he did upon arriving in Dallas was criticize Jerry for not having enough wide receivers.

you do realize that making a good offense even better helps the team right? if the offense now is about to put even more points on the board, that puts less pressure on the defense. is that hard to understand?

owens has taken a backseat to jones? felix jones? really? what the hell are you talking about?

did i say that the cowboys are going to throw to williams and owens nonstop? nope.

yes the cowboys need to get felix jones the ball a few more times a game. yes they need to continue getting marion barber the ball. and yes, they need to continue throwing the ball to witten. none of those things are going to change. barber will probably get thrown the ball a little less because with williams added to the receiving core, they are going to have to check down to the running back as often.

right. but felix jones getting a few more carries doesn't significantly cut into the throwing.

that would only be a problem if there were not many chances. owens is going to have more chances to go one on one with roy williams playing as the other receiver. roy williams is going to have less defensive attention than was on him in detroit (because the cowboys have a star te and good rbs) and is now playing with a better qb(when romo returns). if owens and williams do their jobs well, witten and barber may each lose a couple of catches where they aren't one of the top receiving options on a particular play but romo is forced to check down to them but that doesn't seem like a significant loss or something that would upset anyone. and is certainly is possible in all of this to still manage to give felix a few more touches on offense per game.

the only people that are going to lose touches due to roy williams being here are crayton and austin. that really doesn't seem like a significant loss.

Yes, one would think that defense would be the area to improve in, as opposed to fixing a problem on offense that does not exist, while also giving up 1st and 3rd round pick.

To clarify, I meant performance-wise. Poorly worded on my part.

To keep them happy, that's pretty much what will have to happen.

So you either think or want the Cowboys to magically come up with more available plays to throw the ball to Williams, so that he'll fit seamlessly into the receiving core?

He's getting 5 carries per game right now. He needs more than a 'few more' carries.

It wouldn't upset anyone, if you were dealing with reasonable people here. T.O. doesn't have the Team Oblierator nickname for nothing. In Philly, he was the only other Eagle present on the field besides McNabb, for all intents and purposes, and still got mad at the team and destroyed their season. What does that tell you? As for Williams, he was butthurt while playing in a Mike Martz, pass-happy system last season. I don't know what we wants.

For the good of the team, Witten and Barber need to get the ball as often they have been so far this season. It has worked, there is no sense in abandoning that. But that means that the two big-headed receivers downfield are going to suffer the losses. You won't make everyone happy.

You're spending money you don't have, if you catch my analogy.

I'm fairly sure there will be less production all around.
