When you piss away valuable draft picks it is.

both guys seem pretty damn happy about things right now. and as i've said all along, if they are given the opportunity to make plays, they'll be happy.

where did owens come into the equation? i simple said that with williams instead of crayton/austin, the cowboys will likely have to check the ball down less. that doesn't take passes from owens.

T.O. is happy (or so it seems; he looked like he was milking it a bit in the quote that was posted), for the sole reason that he has a name that he think will help him. Roy Williams is happy because he's out of Detroit.

Little does T.O. know, Roy needlessly clutters the offense, and that hurts the T.O. goal (getting the ball and doing TD celebrations). And when T.O.'s shit gets messed up, or he thinks it is, he doesn't like very much and will pull shit. Ask the Niners or Eagles.

Little does Roy know, that he's walking into the same general situation that he was dealing with in Detroit; not enough balls coming his way. It won't change in Dallas.

    Owens is the lynchpin here.

If he sees Roy Williams across the field getting all this action, how's poor Terrell going to feel?

    Heh, Eagles fan here...

Speaking objectively, Owens has cleaned up his act recently, and although he's still a jackass, I think he has matured a bit. I do think there's a possibility Owens blows up again, but if the Cowboys start winning, and keep winning, I can't see him starting trouble no matter how many touches he gets. Now obviously if the Cowboys start losing, and his touches start decreasing, then yes, Dallas has a problem. But when healthy, the Cowboys are probably the best team on paper since the Patriots are no longer dominant without Brady.

he's going to be pretty damn happy because he's going to be getting a ton of action too with roy williams demanding much more defensive attention than crayton.

The games are not played on paper.

T.O. never grows up. If he can dismantle the Eagles the year after a super bowl run, he can do anything (I don't mean that in a positive way).

One of them (maybe both) is going to be unhappy. In order to get each of them enough receptions (in their minds), Dallas will have to effectively drop Witten or Barber from the offense, and I doubt that will happen.

He dismantled us because he wanted more $$$ though, not touches.

This is true, he even asked to be released if they didn't like him IIRC.

And who's to say he won't pull the same thing in Dallas because he doesn't get touches? He's complained about it already (then passed it off as no big deal and claims that he talked to romo, yeah yeah yeah...).

This move isn't just about the now. Its also about 2 years from now. At some point, Owens will slow down. We don't have his replacement on the roster. Now, we do.

I take it back to the Eagles in the draft where they landed both Sheldon Brown and Lito Sheppard, in rounds 2 (Brown) and 1 (Sheppard) respectively. At the time, they already had Bobby Taylor and Troy Vincent. Yet, they knew their time with both was limited. They still added upgrades at a position where they were talented at.

    We did the same.

And if you cannot still comprehend what Roy brings to the offense over Crayton, I fear this thread is over. Offense may not have been the #1 culprit, but if you've watched Dallas play, its been a problem getting the offense going when teams take away Owens. Now... that problem got a lot easier to resolve.

Let me try this another way. Last year, the "experts" identified the Cowboys biggest problems heading into the draft as WR, CB, and RB. Can't remember the order.

I had the order as CB, RB, then WR.

We addressed CB and RB plenty in that draft.

If we drafted a WR in round one of this upcoming draft, no one would blink an eye. And I'm betting most would say "smart move." Myself included. We essentially did that, except, early. We also parted with a 3rd and a 6th and got a 7th rounder in return. Is it worth that to get a more proven commodity on a team trying to win now? Probably so.

We still have 9 draft picks.

11, once you include the compensatory picks, too.

11 rookies aint making the team.

I expect more wheeling and dealing come draft day.

I'm feeling the same way Vintage. I mean who are we going to take with that round 1 pick anyway? We got our CB, and got our RB last year. We got our LB's in Ware and Spencer...we've got a young QB...tight end is squared away...

I mean the only position that really jumps up at me is MLB, and are we at such a need for it that we must have him next year? Grab an MLB with the second if one is on the board, if not then it's no problem; we're not in that dire a need.
