Any one else read this on Yahoo sports.. The Vikings, Bills, 49ers, Marlins, Rays, Islanders, Hornets, Coyotes, Predators and Bobcats are potential canidates to be on the move in the near future. Orlando could be a possible candidate city for the Rays and KC or Vegas for the Hornets or even the Bobcats. KC could also be a candidate for the Coyotes,Islanders or Predators. Where would the Bills move to, Toronto? The Vikings or 49ers, Los Angeles? Not sure where the Marlins could land. Austin,Tx was mentioned on Yahoo aswell to be a candidate city, but for what sport? Basketball or Hockey? I dont think the Niners or Bills would want to compete with the Cowboys. Heck the Cards have some problems competing with the Boys and they are in Arizona. Im suprised the Jaguars are not still one of the teams to be rumored.
I think more than half of these teams will stay put for at least the next 5 years. I could see the Bills going to Toronto though.
it's been exposed the Toronto will probably not get the Bills, but are still in the running for another relocation team.
It'll probably be a hockey team. You could add the Panthers and Ducks to that group as well. Shaky ownership groups, a declining Canadian dollar (its been holding up the league so far), and the idiotic decision to continue expanding will move an NHL team soon enough. It won't be the Islanders though. They're a terribly dysfunctional organization, but their backed by Charles Wang who's filthy rich. Last I heard he was actually planning on renovating the area around Nassau Colosseum, not move the team.
ESPN showed an interesting list of ownerships that are interested in creating MLS teams including Barcelona having a team in Miami and Steve Nash owning one in Vancouver.
I hate to see teams move. Only if the fans are not really supporting them and if the name and history remains with the city then I would be okay with it. Toronto is under consideration to get another NHL team, maybe by relocation. All the pro leagues have enough teams as it is and even though I would like another team in NYC and see one in Florida and St. Louis, the MLS needs to move teams before expansion. If not it will hurt the league at the time. There were rumors of the Jacksonville Jaguars possibility of moving, not sure where that situation is now.
I'd rather see the NJ Jets and NJ Giants move back to NYC, Or atleast back to NY State. New York only has 7 pro teams, the Knicks, Yankees, Mets, Islanders, Rangers, NY Liberty and the Buffalo Bills. 1 NBA, 2 MLB, 2 NHL and 1 NFL. The Jets and Giants only keep the name NY for publicity, they havent been NY teams since the early 80's. The Redbulls fall in the same category as the Jets and Giants, theyre Jersey Teams.
Yeah, but they should have built one in New York, there should be plenty of room somewhere in NYC,or just north of NYC in NY State. They should atleast get rid of the name NY. New Jersey Giants/Jets/Redbulls..
It wouldn't be as marketable to call it NJ Giants. I don't think having them play upstate is a good idea since the Meadowlands can probably attract more fans than upstate NY. I would understand if they played somewhere in the city though.
Exactly, MONEY.. NYC needs to just seceed then from NY State if its easier to get to NJ than it is just north of NYC. Another thing I dont quit understand is alot of soccer fans wont support the Redbulls, but some of those do support the Giants or Jets. Whats the difference? All three teams play and are headquartered in NJ, but use the name NY. I'm not saying they should support them, it just doesnt make since to me.
I think it's because there's just much more interest in Football here than Soccer. Everyone wants to be a fan of a certain Football team. Anyway, NJ is going to have a soccer team in Harrison that will be referred to as NJ, i'm not sure if it's the Red Bull that are moving there or a new team.
Yeah, I heard the Niners were moving rather local. The Chargers might be moving out of their current location to either Chula Vista, Oceanside, or L.A. was the last rumor. Damn shame about the Hornets. The Bobcats, too. I expect the Marlins to be gone. What about the Clippers? Down to San Diego? Inland Empire?
