Sunday's game may have been Nets fans' longest and best look at Ager since he came over. And I have to say, he looked good. I'll be the first to admit that I expected and wanted him to be traded/cut/waived/bought out before the off season is over, but based on Sunday's game, that might not be the case anymore. - First, his jump shot looked buttery smooth. He stroked it from 20 ft and downtown and also finished inside for 9 points on 4-5 shooting (1-1 3pt). You can never have enough shooters. - Second, there have been various articles by beat reporters of how much Frank has praised Ager's hard work during practices and camp. - Third, he looked confident during the game. He didn't look like a scrub, or someone who was worried about being cut. He shot when given the opportunity and went into the lane as well. Very anti-Wright like. - Fourth, he's still young, athletic, and energetic, and was considered one of Dallas' cornerstones before the trade. - Fifth, perhaps he pulls a Boki this season? Ie. does nothing the season he is traded to the Nets, but explodes the following season after a full off season and camp. At such a cheap price, it would be ludicrous to lose him now, and if he does blow up, then his trade value will be even higher next off season. - Sixth, Frank had him play point guard in camp (but maybe only because Dooling and Harris(?) was out) and before the draft he was touted as a good defensive player although I admittedly did not pay attention to his defense on Sunday. The "solution" to the third Pg position? Can he be this season's Eddie House? What do you guys think? Obviously the biggest problem is that there's no room for him. He would be the third PG and the third SG assuming CDR does well enough to win Carter's backup (I think he does). Also, it was only one game. But as cheap guard insurance that may develop into something more, he might be more important to Frank and Thorn/Kiki than first believed. Edit: Damn, I spelled Maurice Ager wrong in the thread title
Fixed the thread title for you kdub. I was happy with the way Ager played but they're just no room for him on the roster. You've got Carter, Harris, Yi, Anderson, Boone, Lopez, CDR, Najera, Hayes, Dooling, Simmons and Williams who are guaranteed a roster spot this season, plus Swift, Hassell and Ager; and Hodge/Gill on non-guaranteed deals. I think Ager would get cut before Swift and Hassell since Swift's expiring contract is valuable this season and Frank seems to like Hassell. Hodge is Kiki's man, and I could see a scenario where Hodge is signed and Ager is waived, though I think that would be a mistake.
he played pretty well but I still say we send him down to the D League where he belongs..he will gain confidence and develop into a better player with the proper playing time..no need for him on this years Nets team
Cant send him to the D-League. Only first and second year players can be assigned to the D-League and this is his third year. There is no way he can get time on the court this season, not with CDR winning over the coaches and Thorn. And beyond CDR's offense, he had five steals in 42 minutes in Europe.
Ager is a guy that really nobody is rooting for. I doubt that he makes a difference to this team but he does have some talent.
As am I. I want that trade to turn out as lopsided as possible...and I agree the Nets won't pick up his 4th year even if they keep him. Nets are expected to announce decisions on Yi, SWat and Boone's options in the next week or so.
Ager has talent...I wouldn't mind seeing him get some real minutes this season...if and only if we decide to play Vince around 15 mins or so at SF
