With both Derrick Brooks and Barrett Ruud is questionable for this week's game, I thought I'd shine the spotlight on our best backup linebacker, Quincy Black. This guy may be playing a prominent role with the Bucs sooner than initially thought, as Brooks' body may be starting to break down before our eyes. 6'2'', 240 lbs, COLLEGE: New Mexico; HOMETOWN: Chicago, Illinois; Selected with the Bucs 3rd round pick in the 2007 draft. <TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=3 width="100%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD class=ver11white align=left> Black, who played the same position at New Mexico made famous by Bears LB Brian Urlacher, could become the first New Mexico player ever to suit up for the Buccaneers. </TD></TR><TR><TD class=ver11white align=left> Selected by Tampa Bay in the third round of the 2007 NFL Draft on April 28, 2007. </TD></TR><TR><TD class=ver11white align=left> Exceptional athlete who excelled on special teams in his rookie season… Second-year prospect who is vying for increased playing time in a talented and veteran linebacking corps… Totaled nine tackles, 20 special teams tackles and one special teams forced fumble … Originally entered the league as a third-round selection (68th overall) of Tampa Bay in the 2007 NFL Draft. </TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE> http://www.buccaneers.com/team/playerdetail.aspx?player=Black,Quincy,58
What kind of LBer is he? Coverage? Blitzing? Run stopping? Does he have sideline to sideline speed? Weaknesses? Strengths? (I know nothing of him; hence all the questions. )
Pretty fast for a linebacker. He also played a little bit of safety while he was in college, and started his college career as a defensive end (at Harper). So you could say he's versatile. I'd say he is best suited to coverage, out of the three categories you listed. He fits in well with our cover 2 defense, being a fast, coverage-oriented linebacker. Not much of a run-stopper though.
