I'm not liking what I'm seeing from this kid's shot selection at all this preseason. He's forcing the issue like no other. Shades of a young Stephon Marbury, but at least Marbury dropped 8 dimes per game back in the game.

Well no one will ever comment on Carter's shot selection if Frank gives Harris 10 minutes a game on the floor.

Thing is it wasn't much better last year after he was traded to the Nets.

Imho He just looks odd running the point.

I agree with your assessment in the game thread. Carter looks more comfortable running the point than Harris does at the moment.

But Petey, we call him the point guard of the future! He's supposed to be good at it!

First thing I thought about devin watching this game is that he looked exactly like stephon marbury, except not nearly as fluid, and much less talented. defense aint too impressive either but i'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now, just give him a little more time to gel with his teammates. First game he was turning the ball voer too much, now he's shooting too much. Hopefully he'll get it together and find a happy medium

At least he's not paid like Marbury.

Devin has not looked very good offensively this preseason except for the second half in Paris. But I still think he showed ample playmaking ability last year in the two plus months he played with the team. Of course he was mainly running pick and rolls and pushing in transition then, his two biggest strengths.

He's thinking a lot out there right now and is not playing instinctively like he did when he first came over. This offense is new for everyone except maybe CDR, and I think it's going to take Harris perhaps more time than anyone to look comfortable in the half court simply because the teammates, system, and role (co-leading man) are all new for him, and he's highly conscious that he must deliver as a decision-maker at a new level for the team to have success.

Don't judge him too swiftly. Give him a chance to figure out how and when he's going to get his shots in the flow and when he needs to move the ball. The main thing that will help him get going is for the team to defend and rebound well enough to get good transition opportunities, and that will feed his confidence and relieve some of the mental pressure he appears to be feeling right now in the half court.

Tonight the first FGs for the Nets were scored in this order: Carter, Yi, Harris. I thought to myself at that point that that would be prophetic for this season in terms of scoring prowess. So we've got some kind of telepathy going on, danxcr, LOL.

If Yi can stay out of foul trouble long enough, he is very likely to be our second leading scorer. His shot is too perfect for him not to score a lot on those dishes from Harris and Carter and off his own moves, even. Just like last game, he put the ball on the floor once tonight, drove to the lane, pivoted, and hit a feathery soft turnaround jumper. Once may be a fluke. Twice, under control with that kind of touch, tells me its repertoire. He's got (offensive) game. And that sprint where he was jogging and suddenly saw the transition opportunity? He'll score a lot that way as well.

I'm not impressed with Harris's play and he has been the only disappointment of the pre-season so far IMO. I think he'll improve, though, he needs to get used to running a team while being the 2nd option on offense (he never experienced that in Dallas, when he was surrounded by Howard, Dirk, Terry etc.). He needs to learn how to balance his duties as the PG and his duties as the scorer.
