Watching this game, I can honestly say that this starting line-up would give us the best chance to win a game.. Harris CDR Carter YI Lopez
Stat of the night- Every player on the Nets that played logged at least one turnover, including Gill who played only 3 mins.
Wow this got exciting. CDR for a 3, 2 points down, 14 to play. House loses it... bounces it off his knees. CDR is stripped. Nets have to foul. Nets are getting BOO'ED now. -Petey
wow our defense was so bad. the team was treating eddie house like he was ben wallace at the 3 pt line.
I'm not disappointed, we didn't let the Celtics break away and open up a huge lead despite being down for a while in the 4th. This team has shown in the past 3 games that it is capable of performing under pressure. Which is a pleasant surprise, considering all the young guys.
We lost the the Celtics who started JR Giddens, didn't play Pierce, Garnett, or Allen...and we had our full roster. Make no mistake about it, it's going to be a grim season.
The Nets' interior defense must have been pretty solid, though. Look at the lines from all the Celtics bigs: Heck, let's include the SFs also. Perkins, Powe, Giddens, Scal, G. Davis, B. Walker, D. Miles, and P. O'Bryant TOTALLED 30 points on 10-29 shooting, and 17-24 from the line in 136 minutes. Nine of those points came on three three-pointers from Veal. Was the perimeter defense just horrible, or was it just one of those days?
The biggest stat of the game was turnovers (26-14 in "favor" of NJ). NJ outshot them from two, 54% to 46%, out rebounded them by 15 (45-30). But it's hard when you dribble or pass the ball to the other team and give up a host of threes. Positives from this game include the all round play of Lopez (excellent), the second straight excellent offensive game from Yi, Carter's mid-season form, Dooling's debut (impressive even if he looked tentative at times) and the fact that I don't believe the team will be committing 26 turnovers in a game in January. They have to defend well enough early in the season to get the stops and transition baskets that will allow them to stay in games despite what is certain to be a lot of miscues and mistakes in the half court offense, the place where familiarity and practiced timing are so important. I'm still optimistic about the team, even if this game had less to like than the other two.
but, that was without a set rotation, without najera or hayes, and without vc and devin in the 4th, and we barely lost. it won't be as bad as it seems. fun game to be at. painful in the 4th, but fun nontheless
I think it was some of both. For some reason they gave Eddie House too much room to shoot. But Tony Allen was having one of those games. He got going and was making some tough shots and also the Nets kept fouling him and sending him to the free throw line.
Tony Allen is really going to be a star if he can stay healthy, but he's very injury prone. Eddie House...the Nets know the deal with him, what the f! Veal just loves playing in NJ and he got the mins to show it tonight. The Nets will face Boston again very soon, I guess we'll see if they learned anything from tonight's game.
