Some that come to mind:Adrian Dantley-Hes top 15 in the NBA's all time scoring list in terms of points per game. Reggie Theus-The guy gets no love. In my opinion he is one of the most underrated players in league history.Reggie Theus- He is the definiton of underrated. He was solid and he rarley sat out NBA games because of injury. He was a 2 time NBA all star but his teams leading scorer 6 times. He is overlooked often because he had bad luck when it came to playing for losing teams. He played on some really really bad teams. Heres a shocker for guys who doesnt know who Reggie Theus is. He scored more points than hall of famers Isiah Thomas,Bob McAdoo, and many others. He has more assists than hall of famers Jerry West,Larry Bird,Walt Frazier, and many othersthere are only four players among the top 40 all-time scorers and top 20 all-time assists leaders: Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, Isiah Thomas ....... and Reggie Theus.Career stats:18.6 ppg 4.7 apg 1.2 spg 3.3 rpg and he shot a pretty solid 47% Sidney Moncrief-One of the games best defenders of all time. He was more of an explosive scorer than his 15 per night stats showed. The guy is Two-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, Four-time All-NBA First Team, Five-time NBA All-Defensive Team, and a Five-time All-Star but yet hardley anybody knows who he is. Walt Frazier-A top 5 point guard of all time in my opinion. Because he was such a great scorer and playmaker people overlook the fact that he was a top notch defender as well. He led the Knicks too two well earned NBA titles. He owned Jerry west in the 1970 NBA finals.Maurice Stokes anyone? He was just a monster in the game, he could score, rebound, and dish out assists at will. Injuries cut his career short but before that he was a top 5 NBA player in his time. I remember Bobby Wanzer who was a three-time All-NBA guard say "If things had worked out differently, Maurice would have become one of the top 10 players of all time"Mark Aguirre-What an explosive scorer this man was. He was 25 ppg scorer until he got traded to the Pistons where he sacrificed his amazing scoring numbers to win a championship.Andrew Toney-Was overshadowed because he had Moses Malone and Julius Erving on his team, and for a little while Charles Barkely. In my opinion he is one of the most underrated clutch performers in NBA history.Other Notable guys:Bernard KingNate ArchibaldArtis GilmoreDennis Johnson
Artis Gimore is a good name that comes to mind, If I remember right he was even left off the 50 greatest players, but at the time he was a dominating inside force and had probably the most consistent post game the NBA has ever seen.
Dominique Wilkins is probably the most underrated player ever. He was a great player, was on the All-NBA Team seven times, one of the few players to ever average thrity points a game for an entire season, and was a nine time All Star. Despite all this, he is still not in the Hall Of Fame, or on the fifty greatest players of all time list.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Dolph SchayesI bet half the people here don't even know who he is and he's a top 50 player of all time. (Oh yeah BTW I meant underrated by general population not the HOF or league committee or anything like that)

Dave DeBusschere is one of the NBA's 50 greatest and most underrated, and I think Oscar Robertson never gets the respect he deserves for being the best PG to ever play.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Melo061 @ Feb 17 2006, 07:39 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Scottie Pippen should be number 1.</div>Are you kidding? I'm not saying Pippen is overrated, but he's definitely gotten recognition from NBA analysts. Michael Jordan was nothing without Pippen on his team and when Pippen got to Chicago that's when the championships started to streak. Everyone says he's a great defender, great scorer, and formed the best tandem in NBA history with MJ on the Chicago Bulls in the '90s.
I would have to say Oscar Robertson as another underatted player, I know people respect him and he has been regarded as a great player, but too often when people talk about the greatest players to play the game, the Big O is left out. I find it absolutely amazing that he was able to average a triple double, when nowadays they are so rare (VC, for example just recently got his second triple double of his career). You have to give him credit for what he is done, and I find that he is often left out of conversation when discussing the great players who have played. Usually MJ, Wilt, Bird and Magic are the main players mentioned, and the Big O, having played a generation earlier, frequently goes unmentioned..
>Artis Gilmore< easy he was pretty damn good great fg% tohe should of got more credit for stuff he did on the court.
Dennis Johnson was one of those players in the NBA that became something out of nothing. He was a nobody on the bench in HS, only one college gave him a chance, and was one of the greatest hard-nosed defenders in the NBA. He totally shut down Magic Johnson in one of the Boston-LA series in the playoffs back in the '80s.
George Mikan, perhaps the fourth best C of all time, was not mentioned in any basketball convos until he passed away, and it seems like he is gone again.
are you kidding me?, the most underrated player of all time is..........Connie Hawkins, he could of been one of the GREATEST of all time if it wasn't for that scandal in college that he was INICENT of
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (qrich @ Feb 19 2006, 12:43 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Arvydas Sabonis anyone?</div>Yeah, he is definatly one the most underrated. But also Bernard King was amazing, but wasn't recognized for it.

What a weak supporting cast And they challenged Boston for the east many times, even taking them to a game 7.
