Thank you sir. So, it appears he's better than I give him credit for in "clutch" situations. However, if I can make heads or tails of that table, it appears that his stats could potentially inflated by the amount of opportunities he had compared to anyone else. However...one issue that LeBron appears to have is he chucks a lot of treys in clutch...and doesn't make a lot. Only 30.9% with under 5min to go and 16.7% with 2min or less. Yikes.
oh a team effort can keep him out of the lane? great. exactly how does that effect who is the best one on one player?
I wasn't saying it does. My point is that if you keep him out of the lane you limit his effectiveness. Despite what you think, LeBron is NOT a good jump shooter at this point in his career. That's why the Celtics and the Spurs were more than happy to give him whatever jump shot he wanted, because they know that that's his biggest weakness is.
The numbers presented are either per-minute, or in terms of ratios. It's true that he has the ball in his hands more often than your typical player (or even typical star player) in the clutch. But he's also been damn effective, and there's no denying it. He's scored far more per-minute than any other player, and he was right at the top of that list in the 06-07 season as well. He's not a good jump shooter. But he has the ability to dominate the opposing team's defense almost single-handedly with his ability to rip through defenses and finish at the rim. And check out his rebounds, blocks, and steals. He shows his "clutchness" in a variety of ways.
right. have i ever said that at this point lebron is a good jump shooter? i said that your arguments about his jump shooting don't matter in this discussion(as a one on one player) because no one can keep him out of the lane one on one. yes the spurs and celtics used two and three defenders(never one defender though) to keep lebron out of the lane and force him to take jumpers, but that really doesn't have a place in this discussion.
I don't see how is lack of jump shooting is negligible here. Part of playing one on one is being able to hit a jump shot when going to the lane isn't an option. And despite what you think, it is possible to keep him out of the lane. So, I don't see why you find that part of my argument to be negligible.
jump shooting only comes into play if you can't get to the basket. who exactly can stop lebron one on one from doing that?
Ron Artest...Shane Battier... Just because your man defender can't keep you from getting to the hoop doesn't mean that you'll get to the hoop every time. I don't think you comprehend that. If LeBron was so fucking unstoppable, than he'd average 75ppg on 100% shooting because he'd just get to the rim and dunk every time. That's not the case. So clearly, he is stoppable, you're biased ass just can't find a way to admit to it.
again. the title of the thread. "best one on one nba player". lebron doesn't get to the basket every play because he never is going against a single defender. there is always help inside and there are always 5 defenders whose main focus is lebron james. it takes a team effort to keep lebron out of the lane. one guy can't do it.
I give up. You're never going to back down, and neither am I. There's nothing more that I can say. You have your thoughts, I have mine, and they clearly don't match.
Jump shooting comes into play when you can make jump shots from anywhere on the court. Most players in the league can't be stopped one on one.
ya i think a lot of people here have overlooked that. I mean, any star player in the league would be pretty much unstoppable one on one. What about dwight Howard one on one? or carmelo anthony? Kevin Garnett? all those players would be equally unstoppable in a one on one situation. No doubt that Kobe and Lebron are the two best players in the world, but in the NBA every player is good.
