Throwing in Frye seems like a little too much. I'd rather see Diagu get traded.

That being said, the Sactown game yesterday highlighted the need for a legit starting quality SF. Adding Marion would be an immediate upgrade on defense. I'd rather see us make a move for him before next summer (if he's on KP's free agent radar) so we can test him out before commiting to a long term deal.

well i dont think Miami would bite unless Channing was thrown in because they need a center and Diogku is less proven and a power forward

    C-Oden/Pryzbillia/Anthony
    PF-Aldridge/Diogku

seems like the Blazers wouldnt lose any real depth and Shawn can also play the 4

No way with Frye. Outlaw and Raef for Marion would work. Maybe a couple of 2nd rounders.

    I don't know if Ptd does it (I do) . . . but I can't imagine Frye being a deal breaker.

Talk about wild arsed speculation. The "mystery SF" mentioned in that article was never Marion but was in fact James Jones.

As for an actual trade for Marion, on talent and value alone Travis and Channing (with Raef thrown in to make salaries work) is a really good deal for Portland except for a couple of major red flags: Marion is in the last year of his contract, meaning he'd essentially be a rented player, secondly Marion wasn't happy playing third fiddle to Amare and Nash in Phoenix so why would he be happy playing third or fourth fiddle with this team?

I love Marion's game, but I just don't think it's very likely that KP would covet him.

I just don't think KP would trade both Frye and Outlaw for Marion especially when they would have to take another player they don't want back. I think LaFrenz+Outlaw plus a couple picks maybe our 1st and a 2nd round picks or maybe just a couple 2nd round picks because we have a ton of them in the next 3 years. I wouldn't mind trading for Marion at the deadline. The Blazers would get a chance to see how Marion works with the team and if he didn't workout they could just let Marion go and sign another FA.

Agreed. Frye is a nice guy and all, but is easily replaceable if we could get a legit starting SF. There's a chance he'd sign back here if we really wanted him back, and did one of those type of 'deals'.

At the right price, I wouldn't mind Marion if he was willing to accept his role and know Oden, Aldridge and Roy are the main guys on this team. Although that's exactly what got him out of Phoenix.
On talent alone, I'd do that deal and go with this lineup:

    PG Roy
    SG Rudy
    SF Marion
    PF Aldridge
    C Oden

    Sick..

I'd do Marty, Raef, Ike, future 1st for Marion, Future 2nd, filler who's contract is expiring.
If it doesn't work, we still get out of Ike and Marty's potential cap holds, 13 million for raef, and could let Marion walk and just make a huge splash in free agency, and we gain 3 roster spots.
I just think Outlaw is too valuable off of the bench as a spark.

    Blake/Rodriguez/Bayless
    Roy/Rudy
    Marion/Outlaw/Batum
    Aldridge/Frye
    Oden/Przybilla

Hmm, after seeing that depth chart..too many good players, not enough minutes. We'd have to deal Frye so Outlaw can take more PF minutes and either Rudy slides over for some backup 3 mins to make room for Bayless at the 2 or Batum take some of the backup 3 time.

All in all, I don't think Matrix would be happy here.

Salmons moved up on my list of players I wouldn't mind getting. Maybe it was just his night but left me impressed. Unfortunately I can't see Sac trading him.

I think this trade has some actual merit, but giving up a first and second round pick seems like a bit much when it would be just as easy to renounce Marty and Ike, let Raef walk and then just go out and make a run at Marion in Free agency, without having to give up picks. The only reason you'd blow the picks is if you thought that you'd have trouble luring Marion to sign here as a FA, in which case you'd still be worried that he'd walk at the end of the year if you acquired him through trade.

I'm not opposed to using draft picks to get guys, but burning them on trades for guys in the last year of their deal seems kind of risky.

That is what you guys are not getting. He wants to be the #1 option!!!!!!! Not 4th!!!!! We do not need this guy!!! He will NEVER be a 4th option guy. You guys don't understand the importance of chemistry. Marion will RUIN our teams chemistry.

I don't agree with any of this, except maybe that we do not need Marion.

Marion does not need to be the first option on a team, unless his whole career has been some sort of mirage.

Further, what has our "chemistry" got us so far? "Chemistry" is a bunch of bunk, especially on a team that's never made a playoff appearance and has a bunch of youngsters on the roster.
