Re: Field Study 101 I eat lunch downtown almost every day and know some servers. My plan is to ask them their political affiliation, and then do likewise with my tip since Burnside and the NW blocks are becoming overrun by street addicts.
Re: Field Study 101 Behind every Billionaire are hundreds of thousands of grossly underpaid people who did all his dirty work. THAT's what I call redistribution of wealth.
Re: Field Study 101 Yeah, that's a perfect analogy. Take money from a poor working person and give it to a poor non-working person. That's exactly what Obama is talking about when he says that people making $250K or more should pay slightly higher taxes. Cause, you know that waiter is pulling down $250K in tips. barfo
Re: Field Study 101 Honestly, what does their political affiliation have to do with whether or not you give them a tip? For all you know they might vote republican because they're scared of gays ruining the sanctity of marriage, or they might vote democrat because they support Roe v. Wade.
Re: Field Study 101 if this wasn't so moronically stupid, it would be pretty funny. You know, your server probably holds three different jobs, maybe he or she is trying to go to school also, and just trying to pay the bills. You should always tip your servers well, especially with gas prices the way they are right now. What would REALLY be apt is if you went up to the OWNER of the restaurant and told him that you were only going to pay 90% of your bill, and give the rest to the homeless guy. Good luck! Let us know how that goes.
Re: Field Study 101 While I thought it was both funny and thoughtful as well as taught a vbaluable lesson, I still would have left some sort of a tip. If nothing else to show a little compassion.
Re: Field Study 101 Deciding to do a field study of similar intellectual worth, I asked around until I found a pregnant woman who happens to be Republican. I then shot her unborn child (I am unsure whether she lived...irrelevant), but I explained to her in the ambulance that I was exploring the Republican concept of choosing for the mother what to do about her unborn child. She didn't seem angry, but that may have been due to her unconsciousness. Still, if she survived, I imagine she won't be happy. I guess government choosing for the mother, when that choice is different from the mother's choice, is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application.
Re: Field Study 101 If Obama stiffed a waiter to try to prove some ridiculous point . . . yea, Obama would be an asshole. But I was talking about this egotistical jerk who is more interested in listening to himself saying "told you so" than thinking about the fact he stiffed the waiter. I'm guessing he never worked in the serving industry and has no concern for them.
Re: Field Study 101 Sometimes lessons have to be learned, even if you call it a "told you so". People have no choice if their taxes are raised and given to others who don't produce; this waiter had no choice that his earned tip went to someone else. Bravo, anonymous tipper.
Re: Field Study 101 The only lesson to be learned here is to spit in that 'tipper's" food if he ever stepped foot in that establishment again. Sometimes lessons have to be learned, and stiffing a waiter to try to prove some point (god this tipper sounds so smug about things) needs to be taught a lesson. Bravo to fucking the hard working low income citizens.
Re: Field Study 101 That's funny, because I feel the same way about the Bush tax cuts, which affect me, expiring during the next Congress. Meaning, no matter what the silver-tongued Obama says, my taxes will go up. I feel like spitting on the government for this, much as this waiter probably feels like spitting in this tax-paying citizen's food. Bravo to f**king the hard working middle income citizens.
Re: Field Study 101 You do realize, that no matter who wins the election, taxes are going up right. In fact life was a lot better for many people when taxes were up under the Clinton era v. the lower taxes during the Bush era. I just think it is sad that this person feels he is making some point by stiffing a waiter . . . that is one angry, irrational voter.
Re: Field Study 101 Hah, I should pay some homeless dudes to hold up signs: "Vote Obama or give me $1000 for nothing....same thing".
Re: Field Study 101 That's what I was guessing . . . the give away is a $10.00 tip for lunch. I figure a guy like that who can easily dump on a server and rub their nose in it would never consider giving a $10.00 tip for lunch (lucky if you get 10% from a guy like that). But still the whole attitude of "stiff a server to prove a point" rubs me the wrong way.
