Toni To Miss Wolfsburg Clash

Bayern Munich will be without Italian striker Luca Toni for their weekend Bundesliga tie with Wolfsburg after he aggravated a rib injury in midweek against Fiorentina.

It seems likely that last season’s Bundesliga top-scorer will miss the weekend match-up against Wolfsburg as well as forthcoming games with Eintracht Frankfurt and Arminia Bielefeld. He is however looking to be fit to play the return Champions League match with Fiorentina on November 5.

The Italian suffered the rib injury last weekend against Karlsruher, but was determined to play on Tuesday in the Champions League against his former club. He only lasted an hour however after suffering a recurrence of the injury.

“I played as long as I could before it started to get painful” Toni explained.

It now looks like Lukas Podolski will get a run of games in the starting XI where he will renew his international striking partnership with Miroslav Klose.

Bayern will also be without full back Philipp Lahm for the visit of ex-trainer Felix Magath and his Wolfsburg side. The Bayern defender suffered a partial fracture of the tarsal bone in his foot and will be for around four weeks.

Despite the injury woes, Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is keen on Bayern building on last week’s win over Karlsruher in order to climb up the table.

“Following the two wins, we have the necessary self-confidence back. Our goal now is to finish as Winter champions” he confessed.
