But if it happens next season, who cares (except Paul Allen)? The Blazers will have already used their capspace.
I'm not certain, but I don't think they need to sign him in order to work him out. If they don't intend to put him in a uniform and play him in games (which they can't be intending, since 10-day contracts wouldn't get them much past the suspension), why even bother signing him to 10-day contracts? There's no incentive for them to do so...they can see what he has without those deals and, if he has any ability to play, why would they want to make it any easier for another team to play him by conveniently clearing out his suspension on their own dime? Not that the cost is high, but why spend even a buck potentially helping another team?
Believe me when I say this point has been discussed, rehashed, combed over, and picked to death ad infinitum, ad neauseum by this community and it has been determined without a shadow of a doubt that it is ten games in a given season not ten games in two years (or years of indeterminate number -- why stop at just two?) Either way, Blazer fans really shouldn't care; his playing and going back on the Blazers books is not some kind of death knell for cap-room, it's just a dent. Damn I can't wait until the season starts so we have actual Blazers stuff to talk about, even if that includes bitching and moaning about why the good guys in red and black end the month of November 6-12
Hardly. I just try to take the fanatic out of "fan." I love my team, but I just tend to think people's early season expectations for this team are completely over optimistic.
Plus, he has to be on the active roster in order to serve his supsension. Being on the practice squad does not count. So it's 10 games as a sitting 12th man, and then 10 more games of playing. I happen to think he's done basketball-wise; if he lights it up I won't complain at all if/when he gets his shot.
Naw, Nik is a Blazer Maniac!!! 6-12 isn't really that impossible when you think about it... (without Webster... how tough the schedule is and GO just gettin' used to the NBA in the start).
All that has to be said/done is point to his past and what the INDEPENDENT doctor had to say.. Game over. I’ll give you one guess where Marc Spears (writer of the article) worked before Boston Globe…. Denver Post.. This smells of Mark Warkentein big time. “Good kid”, “Nice kid”—right. Does he think the rest of the league is stupid, or doesn’t have a memory? Who are the biggest beneficaiaries if Miles goes back on Portland’s books? Denver, and the rest of the West. If Darius is all that he says he is why doesn’t the unidentified GM sign him for his team? Because he can’t play.
You are wrong. Players don't need to be signed before a workout. What is the point of having a work-out if you already sign the player?
DaRizzle, don't believe me, believe your fellow Laker-lover Larry Coon, who has addressed this issue on the RealGM CBA forum. It's 10 games in either of the next two years, not 10 games over the next two years. That guy knows more about the CBA than most GMs. If or when he plays 10 games in one season (after serving his 10 game suspension), his salary would temporarily go on the Blazers' books. I have been told that there is no way the Blazers wouldn't then appeal the salary being put back on their books and they're confident they would win such an appeal. After all, this rule was put in place so the same team couldn't re-sign a player and lower their cap yet pay him the same salary.
