<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>According to multiple sources, ESPN 100 forward Solomon Hill gave a verbal commitment to the University of Arizona on Monday. The 6-foot-6 Los Angeles native is currently ranked No. 78 overall in the class of 2009 and chose the Wildcats over Washington State, UNLV, Oregon State and USC among others. He joins fellow ESPN 100 prospect Greg Smith (Vallejo, Calif./Bethel) along with Mike Moser (Portland, Ore./Grant) in head coach Lute Olson's 2009 class.

ESPN.com's recruiting coordinator Joel Francisco caught Hill in April's The Difference Tournament and knew he was on to something.

"I may be in the minority, but I felt Hill was climbing the recruiting charts quicker than any prospect so far this AAU season," Francisco said. "It's amazing how his game has transformed from a year ago. He used to be an undersized post player, but now he's blossomed into a legitimate Division I small forward. He has great size and length and he's one of the better passers on the West Coast. His handle has improved considerably since his sophomore campaign and he has a dribble drive that is simply off the charts. My only area of concern for Hill is his jump shot. He's a solid shooter, but needs to improve that area if he wants to make an immediate impact in Tucson."</div>

    Greg Smith Decommits from Arizona

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>ESPN 100 center/forward prospect Greg Smith, rated No. 30 overall, has chosen Fresno State's 2009 recruiting class after decommitting from Arizona. He also had interest from Memphis, Oregon, Florida and Kansas.

Smith spoke with ESPN affiliate The Wildcat Sports Report on Tuesday and he confirmed his decision.

"Yes, it's true. I have decommitted from Arizona and committed to Fresno State," Smith said. "I just want to stay close to home so my family and friends can watch me play. That's the reason. I want to stay home."

Smith, however, didn't rule out changing his mind again, and re-committing to the Wildcats.

"Arizona was great to me," he told the WSR. They're one of the best school and colleges that I would really like to play for. There's a chance that I end up looking at some things and deciding that Arizona is the right school for me."

Smith is the first prospect to pick Fresno State from the 2009 class.</div>

Abdul Gaddy, Mike Moser, and Solomon Hill Decommit from Arizona

    http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/mensbasketball/pac10/2008-10-27-arizona-recruits_N.htm

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'> The third and final defection of Arizona's recruiting class for 2009 is complete.
Prized recruit Abdul Gaddy has decommitted for a second time in five months, his father, Abdul Sr., confirmed in a text message to the Citizen.

Gaddy, Solomon Hill and Mike Moser have all decommitted since Lute Olson retired as coach Thursday.

Gaddy's decision wasn't a surprise. His father said after Olson's retirement that his son was re-thinking his commitment and the family would get together to discuss the matter.

Gaddy, a 6-foot-3 guard from Tacoma, Wash., was ranked as the No. 9 overall prospect for 2009.

Hill, a 6-6 forward from Los Angeles, and Moser, a 6-8 forward from Portland, Ore., both didn't feel comfortable keeping their commitments to a program without a permanent head coach. Russ Pennell will be UA's interim coach for the 2008-09 season.

    Tyler Honeycutt to UCLA

    http://www.latimes.com/sports/college/basketball/la-spw-uclahoops18-2008sep18,0,2938990.story

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Tyler Honeycutt, a 6-foot-8 senior forward from Sylmar who emerged over the spring and summer as one of the most improved high school basketball players in the nation, announced Wednesday that he would sign with UCLA.

Honeycutt averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds as a junior, but he had no scholarship offers. Then he joined the Pump 'N Run club team and saw his stock soar.

UCLA Coach Ben Howland and USC Coach Tim Floyd singled him out as a top recruit, and both went all-out trying to recruit him. Last weekend, Honeycutt attended the sold-out Ohio State-USC football game at the Coliseum in Floyd's final attempt to woo him.

"I just think he felt he'd have a good opportunity at UCLA and it's been his dream school since he was a little kid," Honeycutt's mother, Lisa Stazel said.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Anthony Stover, a 6-foot-9 senior center from Los Angeles Windward High, gave his verbal commitment to UCLA this morning according to his mother, Rena.

Stover had narrowed his choices to Arizona, Arizona State, Creighton and UCLA, and Thursday night Rena Stover said the family -- Anthony's father, Craig; sister Amber, who attends Santa Monica College; brother Nicholas, a freshman at Windward; plus Rena and Anthony went into what Rena described as "the war room."

"We decided to all sit down together and make this decision as a family," Rena said. "Each of us got to give our opinion and in the end it was UCLA. The opportunity to play here at home, go to an amazing academic university, to have a chance to graduate in three and a half years with a major he wants, that all counted."</div>

    Bak Bak to Cal

    http://cal.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=866411

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>That fortitude has paid off in a major way, as Bak – who held scholarship offers from numerous Pac-10 schools, along with heavy interest from Gonzaga, North Carolina and Nevada – made a surprising decision today.

"It is tough because I got back home here and I was still thinking about my trip to Cal," Bak admitted. "There were so many positive things that I liked, so it was just sinking in. But on Tuesday, I knew that's where I was going to go to school. I knew that's the place I wanted to be."

"I spoke with my coach and my principal about it, and like I mentioned before, I want to major in Business or Computer Science. I was confused about needing more studies before I came to Berkeley to do either one, so I called Coach Montgomery and we talked about doing Business school and he said I would be able to do that if I worked hard and continued to do well with my academics. He said that if I want to get a degree in business, I could do that."

"Sometimes you can just feel something right, and I felt that with Cal. I just liked so many things about going to school there."

Markhuri Sanders-Frison and Brandon Smith to Cal

    http://www.ibabuzz.com/beartalk/

    <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Cal will be bigger up front in 2009-10 — about 275 pounds bigger.

Coach Mike Montgomery, responding to an immediate need on his frontline, got an oral commitment over the weekend from 6-foot-7, 275-pound post player Markhuri Sanders-Frison, a native of Portland, Ore., who will play this season at South Plains CC in Levelland, Texas.

Sanders-Frison, who visited the Berkeley campus this past weekend, becomes the third member of the Bears’ class of 2009. He joins 6-8 forward Bak Bak, a native of the Sudan, and De La Salle point guard Brandon Smith. The first day of the fall signing period is Nov. 12.

    EJ Singler to Oregon

    http://blog.oregonlive.com/behindducksbeat/2008/10/south_medfords_other_singler_c.html

    <div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>
Even though he already had made up his mind, E.J. Singler took advantage of a recruiting trip to the University of Oregon on Saturday.
A day after helping his South Medford football team win at South Eugene, Singler stayed in town to listen to Oregon coach Ernie Kent's elaborate presentation about his basketball program. As soon as it was over, Singler stood up in the Ducks' locker room before his parents and the UO coaching staff and made it official.

"I just looked at them and said, 'I want to be a Duck," Singler said. "I did it then because it just felt right. It is a relief, with the weight off my shoulders now."

The 6-foot-6 forward was a second-team Oregonian all-state selection last season after averaging 20.2 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.2 blocked shots for the
Panthers, who placed sixth at the OSAA Class 6A championship tournament at McArthur Court.

In a news conference at his high school Monday afternoon, Singler spoke of the family atmosphere at Oregon and how excited he was to represent his home state in college. In a similar setting at the school two years ago - albeit with far greater hype - Singler's older brother, Kyle, announced his commitment to play at Duke.

    Roberto Nelson to OSU

    http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/basketball/ncaa/09/09/oregonstate.recruit/index.html

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Robinson, who spent the two previous seasons at Brown, did better than that in his first recruiting class, landing a surprise verbal commitment on Tuesday from 6-foot-3 guard Roberto Nelson, a top 50 senior from Santa Barbara (Calif.). Nelson had offers from UCLA, Florida, Ohio State, USC and Tennessee, yet became smitten with Robinson over the past few months and came to the conclusion that turning around the Beavers' downtrodden program would be more satisfying than joining one of those established powers.

NCAA rules prevent Robinson from commenting on recruits before they sign a Letter of Intent. He told Nelson and his summer-league coaches that he viewed him as program-changing recruit. A strong guard comfortable posting up players as well as shooting from the outside, Nelson's versatility was said to appeal to Robinson, who brings the modified Princeton offense to Corvallis.

    Demetrius Walker to USC

    http://wearesc.com/news/story.php?article=1200

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Junipero Serra’s Demetrius Walker became the newest member of the 2009 USC recruiting class this past weekend, after he informed Head Coach Tim Floyd of his decision to join the Trojans.

“I committed to Coach Floyd over the phone,” Walker said. “I’d been down to the campus two or three times and really liked it. I felt like USC was the right place for me to be.”

As a middle schooler, Walker was unfairly labeled the “next LeBron James.” He had the size, speed and athleticism to do whatever he wanted on the court. He was destined for the NBA at age 11 and profiled by Sports Illustrated at 14. But when the hype didn’t meet the production during his first two years of high school, the criticism came fast and furious. He was labeled a bust as a freshman and saw his name continue to slide down the national rankings as a sophomore.

    Charles Garcia to Washington

    http://blog.seattletimes.nwsource.com/huskyhoops/2008/06/15/a_little_more_o_1/

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Here's an unedited version of a story for the on-line and print editions about the commitment of Charles Garica Jr. I'll have some more analysis later.

One of the goals for the Washington men's basketball coaching staff this year was to find some big players who could immediately fill the void that will be left by the graduation of all-conference forward Jon Brockman after the 2008-09 season.

The Huskies took a big step in that direction this weekend by securing a commitment from Charles Garcia Jr., a 6-9-and-a-half, 220-pound forward from Riverside (Calif.) Community College.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Clarence Trent, a well-traveled basketball player with Northwest ties, has given an oral commitment to play for Washington, bringing the Huskies' latest recruiting haul to three out of a possible four.

The 6-foot-7, 230-pound Trent, who could not be reached for comment Thursday, chose Washington over California, the only two schools he visited, according to a source close to the Huskies team.

For 2009, the Huskies have received nonbinding recruiting commitments from Utah high school shooting guard C.J. Wilcox, California junior-college forward Charles Garcia and now Trent.

The latest Huskies basketball find originally attended River Ridge High School in Lacey, transferred to Gig Harbor High for two years and wound up at Findlay Prep School in Henderson, Nev., where he now attends classes.

    CJ Wilcox to Washington

    http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/huskies/2004453883_umen03.html

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>The Washington Huskies' most glaring deficiencies the past few seasons have been in the backcourt. But they won't lack for options in the coming seasons after the addition of another guard.

C.J. Wilcox, a 6-foot-5, 180-pound shooting guard from Pleasant Grove, Utah, committed Monday to sign with the Huskies next fall. Wilcox will be a senior next season at Pleasant Grove High School and becomes the first commitment for UW's Class of 2009.

The Huskies will welcome three new guards this fall — Isaiah Thomas, Scott Suggs and Elston Turner Jr., as coach Lorenzo Romar envisions returning to the three-guard style of the Nate Robinson-Brandon Roy era.

Wilcox also seriously considered Utah and had offers from Miami and Florida State before deciding on UW, said his father, Craig Wilcox, a former guard at Brigham Young.

    Xavier Thames to WSU

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Xavier Thames, a 6-foot-3 point guard from Pleasant Grove High School in Elk Grove, Calif., has given Washington State a verbal commitment to play basketball for the 2009-2010 season.

Thames' father, Ray, said his son chose WSU because the Cougars had been one of the first teams to recruit him.

Washington State had a pressing need to add a point guard for 2009-10. The Cougars will lose senior Taylor Rochestie, and in January freshman point guard Stephen Sauls left the program after experiencing recurring headaches from a concussion.

Thames is WSU's second player to commit for 2009-10, joining 6-5 swingman Anthony Brown of Spokane's Shadle Park.
