In his last 2 seasons, DP averaged over 20 points per game, in addition to shooting over 50% from the field and an insane 45% from the three pt line. If Petrovic didn't die so young, what do ya'll think he would have accomplished? It's hard to believe he didn't make the All-Star team in his last two years...he was obviously better than the peeps that made the roster (Alvin Robertson, Hersey Hawkins and Ricky Pierce). IMO, if he lived longer and played till he was 35, these are the accomplishments I think he would have added to his resume: 3x All NBA 3rd Team 1X All NBA 2nd Team 4x All Star For the Next stat, I based him playing an average of 75 games a year for 8 years, averaging at least 18 points. Finish with 14,000 career points (The 20,000 point club in the NBA = 500 Home Run Club in the MLB) So if he finished with 14,000 points that's like hitting 350 Home Runs [Think legendary cats like Joe Dimaggio, Hank Greenberg, Jim Rice, and George Sisler). How does he rank on your list of All-Time Nets (Buck Williams, John Williamson, and of Course Julius Erving)?
He was one his way out of Jersey, had he not passed, so I don't think he would've ranked too high on Nets all time players. As it is, he's one of the reasons I was so high on the Nets back in those days. He was all heart and it showed it with the passion he played with. I'm a bit too young to remember the Nets greats of the 70-80's so as far as the the Nets I saw games of, Drazen's in my top 2 with Kidd.
co-sign. Kidd's definitely on the list. If Keith Van horn (stepped his game up a bit) and had moderate success in the playoffs you could make a case for KVH, he put up solid stats back in the day for New Jersey.
I was at his career high game of 44 in 1993 against the Houston Rockets and still have quite a few of his games on VHS. Such a bummer when he died. Not too long after Reggie Lewis if I remember correctly. And being an Iowa Hawkeye fan I remember Chris Street dying in a snowmobile accident that same year.
drazen also accomplished this at a time when the league allowed defenders to impede perimeter players with holding and pushing...now they basically roll the red carpet for perimeter players to get to their position to shoot...
