Hi everyone, I been lurking here for a while, I decided to sign up cuz i got something to contribute, I like this board a lot, I get the impression that you guys are very welcoming to new fans and respectful towards each other, seems like a great place to be. Im just sharing two files of Yi if anyone wants to see them, i found on another Chinese forum huanantiger. Hope you guys have a great season. Yi's one handed dunk but wasnt counted http://www.huanantiger.com/attachments/20081030_6c60e36d14ad55f2591fODHe9JvSmycs.gif Highlights of Yi http://img.ku6.com/common/V2.0.1.swf?ver=107&vid=MbfHhhS7Qeq5N-EP&referer=
Welcome to S2! You picked a great spot to talk about Nets basketball, there are a lot of dedicated and enthusiastic Nets fans here, and quite frankly, I don't blame them. If you have any questions, feel free to private message me or any of your friendly Nets moderators. Enjoy! (BTW, I'm Shanghainese, in case you were Chinese )
nice highlights. Wonder if Yi worked on his 3 point shooting in the off season. He wasn't a very good 3 point shooter last year as a buck. Great game overall from Yi, but he needs to stay hungry like VC said, still a lot of room for improvement.
Hats off to Frank for a smart strategic adjustment. Etan Thomas was playing a very effective game and Frank stayed with Lopez in favor of Boone. Eddie Jordan kept Blatche on Lopez and the undersized Thomas stayed glued to the bench. Nicely done!
I think that overall, the team played well together...they had good chemistry, no one seemed to look lost or unsure of their assignments, etc. Honestly, I didn't think Lawrence Frank had it in him to get a team prepared like this (he's been head coach of the Nets when they had good runs before, but I attributed that more to Kidd than Frank). As long as they keep playing with unselfishness, I think they will get better and better...
I work with a lot of English 2nd language guys, the 4 letter words are the first one's you learn.....and for me I'd say it's the same for me and chinese, i learn their 4 letter words first. But this is great, if Yi can bring this much emotion, each day, I think it'll be great for the team.
I knew Hayes was going to big for us. He's going to get major bench min. I don't mind him coming off the bench either, he's better suited as an energy player over stiff Simmons. If everyone is loving Hayes, I can't wait till Najera comes back. He's just as consistent. In limited min he goes all out hustling that leads to some very energetic plays...but at the same time he always stays within his game. Now I see the comparisons to Yi/Dirk. And I believe Yi will become the better player. If he can develop a solid post game and some strength, we could see a hybrid Garnet/Dirk on our team. Brook is awesome. He just needs to take smarter shots, get into rhythm, before trying to dominate the outside. It's been happening since summer league. Use those post moves! Boone is solid, but he needs to step his game into another level or else Brook is taking the starter spot. I really wish I could see that 10fter he's been practicing. Devin as a scorer is almost unguardable. As a true PG, I definitely like what he see's...it's just his passing ability doesn't allow it. If he could hit his mark more often then not...he'll be an all star. Same thing goes for Dooling, except he's not as talented as Devin creating his own shot, as well as finishing. But I love his defense. I'm a huge Frank hater, but he's stepping up. Great job switching up plays offensively (was that you or Harris calling the shots?). He actually fed the hot hand for once. That drought with the 2nd string wasn't all that great though. CDR needs to get into the offensive scheme, too. Don't make a 3pt shooter. He should've tested the high pick n roll with him. I hope Frank can continue to make better adjustments, but if he lost this game, the way the wizards are at right now...I would've killed him.
The Wizards are exactly the same as they were last year except Thomas and Dixon are in for Haywood and Mason. They were six point favorites.
Nick Young looked very good. I remember that i thought there was a legitimate chance that he would fall to the nets a few years ago, and that they would select him. Oh well. Who did they take again?
The worst part? ?The last game of that season (Nets v Wiz) was a game thrown by Tim Donaghy. The Nets won.
If Young were on board by the time we pick there would be high probability we picked him up. I remember Thorn saying something like Wiz taking Young before Nets made their choice easy at 17.
two quick comments: It looked like about half the possessions, Vince brought up the ball and served as the primary ball handler, and Devin was the off-ball guard. I wonder if there are some sets they run with Vince handling the ball, and some with Devin handling the ball. I thought it was interesting, because it could cause havoc with the other team defensively. Vince can certainly do a pretty good job as a PG. Also, I noticed that Hassell came off the bench and played most of the fourth quarter once the Nets had a lead. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a Hassell-Najera combo at the end of games to close things out. We're a team of specialists.
Hassell didn't play. Are you thinking of Hayes? My thoughts: - Frank is doing what many thought he couldn't: be willing to play his bench and rest his starters, especially Vince and Devin just enough for them to be fresh all game. Also he played all 3 rookies, and for a significant amount of minutes as well. - Vince did great a job deciding when to score and when to defer. He racked up the assists in the first half and tried to get people going, and in the second half he just went ballistic, abusing whoever was guarding him. He had a good mix of drives and jump shots. - Devin is money from the step back jumper? I guess so! His quickness is extremely evident, whether it's driving the lane, or suddenly changing directions (last night, it was mostly a step backward, to give him space to shoot the jumper). He passed the ball around well enough to get 8 assists if Simmons wasn't so cold. Nothing Kidd-like, but he also didn't try to be flashy. He was efficient, and scored judiciously. I like it. - Like ghoti said, Yi has NO confidence issues. He IS money from 10 feet, 16 feet, 18 feet, and 24 feet. And yeah, 0 feet as well. He has no conscience as a shooter, and that's a good thing because he's an absolute dead-eye shooter. But he's also not afraid to drive the lane for a hard dunk, and he also had a VERY impressive monster block on Etan Thomas (and that guy is HUGE). Also argued with the ref. I liked that as well. Get what you deserve young prodigy! - Jarvis Hayes. I doubt Jarvis before the season started, but if he can be the player he was last night every other game... what a steal by ThronKiki. No hesitation to him jumpshot and he is also beautifully accurate. He may have saved the Nets last game. Still seemed pretty athletic as well. - Bobby Simmons. Took open shots and missed them. Not too worried, he'll hit those 3's eventually at around a ~400 clip. - Brook Lopez is huge. No one could really contain him, his missed shots were his own doing. A beast out there once he establishes position and a much better rebounder than I thought. Definitely an active rebounder, as he skys high for them and doesn't wait for them to come to him. Swatted many shots inside as well. I'm extremely happy we have him. - Ryan Anderson played a good game for his role and minutes. Hit a 3, drove the lane with probably surprising quickness (not to me however), and collected rebounds and had a nice dish to Brook for the slam. Not more you could ask for. - Yes, Dooling took some bad shots, and I can see how he isn't that great of a passer, but for the first time in many seasons, I felt... confident when our starting point guard wasn't in the game. Dooling has a calming presence... I don't get worried when he comes in for Harris and his competitive nature is contagious. - CDR disappointed me a bit. He didn't seem very aggressive at all. Felt like he was just a cog in the dribble drive offense, when he probably should be one of the finishers. Could have just been the way the plays were run, however. I'm sure he'll make his mark on a game sooner or later. - And finally, the TEAM! Yeah Sean and Ager didn't play but you couldn't tell by watching them to cheer and get ecstatic when the team on the floor scored or played some good defense. Everyone was into it, and it was just so refreshing and exciting to see. Vince also mentioned that Sean was still mentoring Ryan and Brook and Boone during the game, and Frank said that the whole team was very supportive and energetic and it was great to see. That's my take! It was fun to watch and I'm excited to watch them play at home!
yeah, I kind of thought it was weird when I saw him. Or thought I saw him. They both have an "Ha" on their jerseys and are bald.
